US Two present the best dancing tunes from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s Saturday, September 14, 7 p.m. Cost is 350 pesos.
Echoes, a collaboration of Lake Chapala area-based musicians, presents a timeless tribute to the best of Pink Floyd Saturday, September 21, 7 p.m. at the Spotlight Club. Texan Arnold Polanco 
(guitar and lead vocals), Tapatio Jorge Orendain (keyboards), Canadians Bob Steadman (bass) and Doug Friend (drums) all are Floyd fans who are having a great time rehearsing their favorite tunes for this show. Cost: 250 pesos.
Ron Knight presents “VODVille,” characterized as vintage comedy and variety, stage brilliance, buffoonery and bombastics, Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28, with shows at 3 and 7 p.m. each day. Enjoy seven 10-minute plays showcasing Red Skelton, Abbott and Costello, Jerry Lewis (on his father the vaudeville great Danny Lewis), Laurel and Hardy, the Marx Brothers, the Four Stooges and more. An honorarium to the classic legends who stand the test of time having become American and global entertainment public Icons.
Friday, October 4, Aunt and Uncle Jazz presents a dinner-show featuring jazz, bolero and bossanova. Cost is 300 pesos for the show only, 500 pesos including dinner.

New gallery
Local artisan jeweler designer Heber Barajas will hold a grand opening of his new venue, Heber Galeria Artesanal in Centro Laguna (across from Telcel), Saturday, September 14, 6-8 p.m. Enjoy music by Trialogo, special discounts, sangria and a raffle at 7 p.m.
Heber will be making jewelry at the opening and photographer Jaime Barbiery will explain his technique of printing on fabric and the content of his images. Other items will include parotta tables, mirrors and other furnishings by Lakeside craftsmen.
ABBA fever
Janelle’s Garden restaurant is getting ABBA fever. “Mama Mia, Here We Go Again” is a dinner-theater production of songs interpreted by Abby y Rocia, Wednesday, September 18 and Thursday, September 19, 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets for this dinner show are 350 pesos, available at Diane Pearl, Mia’s Boutique and Janelle’s Garden.
Rebozo magic
The Feria Maestros del Arte presents a unique fund-raiser fashion show Thursday, September 19, 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Arileo Steakhouse, Carretera Jocotepec-Chapala 1088. Models will showcase silver jewelry of Gabriela Sánchez Arias, huipiles by Carmen Vazquez Hernandez from Chiapas, as well as Lupita Zepeda’s rebozos.

Feria Maestros del Arte is a non-profit organization in both Mexico and the United States. The group’s mission is to give Mexican folk and indigenous artists a venue to sell their hand-crafted art, which is disappearing due to the ever-changing world marketplace.
Feria fundraising efforts such as the fashion show, provide the funds needed to transport the artisans (many of whom live in Chiapas, Oaxaca and other distant areas) to the show.
Zombie dance rehearsals

Film Aficionados
Lake Chapala Society (LCS) members can take advantage of Film Aficionados screenings each Thursday, 2 p.m.
On September 19, “When I Get Home, My Wife Always Pretends to Be Dead” (Japan, 2018) will be screened. (110 minutes.) Confronted by the eccentric behavior of his wife, a man posts questions online, the answers to which become the basis for the story of the married couple.
Los Cantantes del Lago
If you love to sing, love to be part of a choral group and perform, join Los Cantantes del Lago community choir for their 2019 Holiday Concert, “A Rose in Winter.” All singers are welcome; the ability to read music is preferable. Men are especially welcome.

Bare Stage Theatre
“Mrs. Warren’s Profession” by George Bernard Shaw is the next production of the Bare Stage Theatre, Friday to Sunday, September 27 to 29.
Mrs. Kitty Warren has worked hard to provide for her daughter, but when Vivie learns the truth about her mother’s profession, the stage is set for a battle royal between mother and daughter about love, sex, money and morality. It’s Shaw at his wicked best.
Shaw’s 1894 play was deemed too scandalous for public performance in Great Britain and was banned by the Lord Chamberlain until 1925, and its New York premiere in 1905 caused such outrage that the cast were arrested. Its offence was that Shaw was writing about the world’s oldest profession, prostitution, and alluded to a possible incestuous coupling. His greatest crime, though, was the play’s attack on Victorian hypocrisy.
Directed by Roseann Wilshere, the cast members are Emily Crocker, Mark Donaldson, Fred Koesling, Allen McGill, Barbara Pruitt and Michael Warren.

Rondalla fest
Four rondallas (groups of serenaders) perform at the Antigua Presidencia de Chapala as part of the Second Encuentro de Rondallas Guadalajara 2019 on Friday, September 27, 6 p.m. Tickets, 100 pesos, at 331-342-0097 or 331-246-6112.
Ukulele singalong
Club Ukulele de Laguna has slated a singalong, together with a “Feeling Groovy” concert by the kids of the Academia de Ukuleles de la Ribera, Saturday, September 28, 2 p.m. at El Sombrero Restaurant (formerly Blue Moon, next to El BarCo) in Ajijic. There is no admission fee, but they will pass the hat to benefit the kids in the Academia, where some 40 children are receiving free ukuleles and instruction (beginner, intermediate and advanced). Classes are also provided at two home shelters: Love in Action and Hope House. The teachers are Mexican professionals: Marcos Rayas and Alejandra Aguayo (a graduate of the Academia).
Ukulele players from all over are invited to participate in these fundraisers. Club Ukulele offer songs that everyone knows – but just in case, they provide lyrics for the audience, and a few instruments like maracas, kazoos, and tambourines for audience participation.
Sculpture event
A Weekend of Sculpture in the Garden is on at the Cochera Cultural Saturday, September 28, noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday September 29, noon to 4 p.m. The exhibit includes sculptural artwork by more than a dozen local artists, featuring work in metal, wood, iron, papier mache, stone and various other materials.
An entrance fee of 50-peso will be in support of Los Brigadistas de San Pedro Itzican, a youth group some 2,000 strong. The Brigadistas are a local community organization working in the humble towns east of Mezcala that provides first response services in the areas of first aid, fire-fighting and search and rescue. Their mandate also includes recruitment and training in life skills, leadership and mentoring of local youth, with the goal of improving education and opportunities for growth.
Snacks and beverages will be available along with live entertainment. Tickets are available at the door on the day of the event. Cochera Cultural is at Javier Mina 49 in Ajijic. No pets are allowed at this event.
Foto Septiembre
The 10th anniversary showing of Foto Septiembre Ajijic, organized by the Lagogris artists’ collective, is up at the Centro Cultural Ajijic through September 17.
