Bare Stage Theatre

The Bare Stage Theatre opens its second season with a performance of Noel Coward’s comedy “Blithe Spirit” Friday, October 25 through Sunday, October 27.

Charles Condomine, a successful novelist wishing to research the occult, arranges a séance at his home. The eccentric medium, Madame Arcate, inadvertently summons Charles’ first wife, Elvira, who has been dead for seven years. Only he can hear or see her, causing his present wife, Ruth, much consternation as Elvira attempts to sabotage the marriage by all means necessary.

Young performers

“Obertura Balam” (The Last Jaguar Warrior), a music, choral and dance spectacular enacted by children of the Helen Keller School, is presented Sunday, October 27, 1 p.m. at the Auditorio de la Ribera.

The compositions and arrangements by ethnomusicologist Ernesto Cano Lomeli are perfectly suited for children and adults. The school’s Hikuri dance collective, under the direction of choreographer Betsaida Pardo will present a mosaic of dances from different regions of Mexico. Pre-hispanic instruments, including the huehetl, globular flutes, teponaztlis and water whistles, will provide the musical accompaniment. vDance

“Old is the New,” a presentation by the Desperanto Academia de Danza under the direction of Carlos Rayo, will be held Sunday, October 27, 7 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia in Chapala. Tickets are 30 pesos. Proceeds are earmarked for the dance academy’s folkloric group.

Spotlight Club

Stolie concludes her “I Get Around Tour” after six months on the road with a performance at The Spotlight Club Wednesday and Thursday, October 30 and 31, 7 p.m. Stolie is a musical entertainer and entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience onstage and more than a dozen of albums. With over 100 published songs, she’s a multi-instrumental songwriter and arranger, live loop-pedal artist, and bilingual traveling performer. Her knack for improvisation and humor with an audience was witnessed at her crowd-pleasing debut in May.

Loteria collective exhibit

La Loteria, a collective exhibit featuring paintings and sculptures by 11 artists from Guadalajara revolving around the theme of the Mexican version of bingo, is up at the Centro Cultural Ajijic through October 30.

Rock legends

Bar El Camaleon, Constitución 25, Ajijic, hosts a “Rock Legends” evening Saturday, November 2, 9 p.m., featuring the music of The Doors, Janis Joplin and others. There will be prizes for the best three Day of the Dead costumes.

Tango

“Change of Seasons,” billed as “a love story told in dance,” showcases the delightful Argentinean tango. Lakeside Little Theatre’s first show scheduled for November 8 through 17, “Lunenburg,” has been canceled due to a variety of factors.
