Lip Sync
The 12th annual Lip Sync show continues at the Auditorio de la Ribera Friday, January 10, 6 p.m. and Sunday, January 12, 2 p.m. The bar opens one hour before each show.

Under the direction of Michael McLaughlin, the Lip Sync show is a benefit to raise money for improvements to the Auditorio.
Flamenco
Tenor Jorge Taddeo, classical guitarist Eddie Lara and ballet dancer Argelia Garcia star in “Asturiana,” an evening featuring compositions by Falla, Dowland, Purcell, Britten, Brahms and Schubert, at the Auditorio de la Ribera, Saturday, January 11, 6 p.m. Tickets are 200 pesos.
Talent shows
The Chapala Talent Show, a benefit for the School for Special Children, will hold performances Sundays at 7 p.m. on January 12 and 26 at the Spotlight Club in San Antonio Tlayacapan. First prize is 25,000 pesos. A finale will be held February 16.

Watercolor class
A free watercolor painting class for beginners is offered at the Jardin del Arte La Floresta Sunday, January 12, 1 p.m. The Jardin is located at the park in front of the castle on the Chapala-Jocotepec highway in La Floresta.
Ukulele sing
Sing! Play! Enjoy! Ukulele! Always free, always casual, always fun. Every Wednesday, 2 to 4 p.m. at The Cocktail Bar, Constitution 32 in Ajijic. Singers, uke players, string instrument players welcome. Come for the music, stay for the food, drinks and fun.

“20th Century Blues” by Susan Miller is the next production of the Lakeside Little Theatre, set for January 17 to 26.

“20th Century Blues” follows four 60-something friends as they confront the downsides of being an adult, primarily aging and ageism. This is the story of a group of four women whose annual photo shoot ritual keeps them together, until it threatens to tear them apart.

LCS mariachi fest
The Lake Chapala Society presents its fifth annual international mariachi festival, Saturday, January 18, 3 to 6 p.m. The program features the debut of Mariachi Torres and return performances from Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista and Grupo Bella. All are award-winning groups from the United States. Tickets, 250 pesos in advance and 300 pesos at the door, are available at the LCS ticket office or at TheLakeChapalaSociety.com.
LLT auditions
Peggy Lord Chilton will direct LLT’s production of “The Actress” by Peter Quilter, with show dates March 27 to April 5. Auditions are Friday, and Saturday, January 17 to 18, 9:30 a.m. at Lakeside Little Theatre. Two men and five women are needed.
The dressing room of a theatrical star is as full of conflicting emotions as exist on stage. In this delightful and light-hearted play, the famous Lydia Martin sweeps in for the final performance of her long and glittering career. Around her are her dresser, her agent, her daughter, her ex-husband, her new fiancé and the company manager, bringing with them a flurry of goodbyes, tears, insults, laughs, recriminations, kisses and regrets. On stage she takes her final bow to storms of applause before returning to the dressing room to make a final decision on her future.

After an initial presentation in August, Art Battle returns to the Hotel Real de Chapala Saturday, January 18, 6 to 10 p.m. for a live painting competition with both local and regional artists painting live in front of an audience that is allowed to rate their work and determine who wins the prize. Art Battle invites culture enthusiasts, painters, art collectors, art party lovers, and the entire Chapala community to join the experience and vote for the next Art Battle Champion.

Her father is afraid that his baby girl may be marrying the wrong man for the wrong reasons. Her bombshell sister, Wanda, is home for the big day with her latest boy toy. And her mother is pondering the future (post-wedding) as part of a couple whose passion has diminished from a forest fire to a small grass fire. Will Maggie get cold feet when she learns that her sister knows the groom all too well?

Anton Belov
A Bravissimo! classical concert of voice and piano with Russian baritone Anton Belov and Timothy G. Ruff Welch as collaborative pianist takes place Sunday, February 2, 4 p.m. at St Andrew’s Anglican Church. The concert is presented by the Bravo! Theatre.
Belov’s voice has been called “rich and mellifluous” by the New York Times. He will sing pieces by Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Santoliquido in Russian, Italian, Spanish and English.
Those who saw Belov the last time he performed at Lakeside know he is a consummate and passionate performer. Belov and Welch join forces again to create a magical and memorable concert.
