Bravo! Theatre
“Lettice and Lovage,” a comedic and satire by Peter Shaffer, continues at Bravo! Theatre, Thursdays to Sundays through January 26. The play is centered around a flamboyant tour guide who loves to embellish the history behind an English country house and who butts heads with a fact-conscious official at the house.

“20th Century Blues” by Susan Miller is the next production of the Lakeside Little Theatre, set for Friday, January 17, to Sunday, January 26.
Director Kevin Cook and Assistant Director Russell Mack lead the cast of Chris L’Ecluse, Debra Bowers, Georgette Richmond, Collette Clavadetscher, Connie Davis and Nicholás Cumplido in this smart, funny and touching ode to friendship and aging.
“20th Century Blues” follows four 60-something friends as they confront the downsides of being an adult, primarily aging and ageism. This is the story of a group of four women whose annual photo shoot ritual keeps them together, until it threatens to tear them apart.

LCS mariachi fest
The Lake Chapala Society presents its fifth annual international mariachi festival, Saturday, January 18, 3 to 6 p.m. The program features the debut of Mariachi Torres and return performances from Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista and Grupo Bella. All are award-winning groups from the United States. Tickets are 300 pesos at the door.
Art Battle returns
Art Battle returns to the Hotel Real de Chapala Saturday, January 18, 6 to 10 p.m. for a live painting competition with both local and regional artists painting live in front of an audience that is allowed to rate their work and determine who wins the prize.
Art Battle invites culture enthusiasts, painters, art collectors, art party lovers, and the entire Chapala community to join the experience and vote for the next Art Battle Champion.

Franco Zefferelli directs this Metropolitan Opera production starring Placido Domingo, Teresa Stratas and a magnificent Cornell MacNeil. Shown in honor of Zefferelli, who recently passed away. A tragic love story with glorious music and spectacular dancing. (112 minutes.)

Bare Stage Theatre presents “Maggie’s Getting Married” by Norm Foster, directed by Roseann Wilshere, Friday to Sunday, January 24 to 26.
The Duncan family prepare for the wedding of their daughter, Maggie, but things go haywire and the dream begins to crumble. It’s the night before her wedding to Russell, a realtor who wooed her in a whirlwind romance. Unfortunately, she’s the only one excited about it! Her father is afraid that his baby girl may be marrying the wrong man for the wrong reasons. Her bombshell sister, Wanda, is home for the big day with her latest boy toy. And her mother is pondering the future (post-wedding) as part of a couple whose passion has diminished from a forest fire to a small grass fire. Will Maggie get cold feet when she learns that her sister knows the groom all too well?

Anton Belov
A Bravissimo! classical concert of voice and piano with Russian baritone Anton Belov and Timothy G. Ruff Welch as collaborative pianist takes place Sunday, February 2, 4 p.m. at St Andrew’s Anglican Church. The concert is presented by the Bravo! Theatre.
Belov’s voice has been called “rich and mellifluous” by the New York Times. He will sing pieces by Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Santoliquido in Russian, Italian, Spanish and English.
Those who saw Belov the last time he performed at Lakeside know he is a consummate and passionate performer. Belov and Welch join forces to create a magical concert.
