Painting

Oil and watercolor works by internationally recognized artist Glenda Rogers will be on display at Yves’ Restaurant, Friday, March 12, through Monday, March 15. The artist will be on hand daily, between 1 and 3 p.m.

pg20aA native of North Carolina, Rogers studied photography at Southern Methodist University. She was the featured artist in the 2011 Boulder County Art Walk in Longmont, Colorado.

Since moving to Mexico, she has continued to hone her skills under the masterful tutelage of Efren Gonzalez. The colors, images and passions of 55 countries she has taken in during her travels influence her content and style. Glenda lives full time in Ajijic with her two “crazy dogs” and “even crazier” husband.

Efren Gonzalez offers a live oil painting workshop Tuesday, April 13 to 16, 9 to 3:30 p.m. One painting each day is the goal of the class. Limited to 12 students. Call 331-703-3942 to sign up.

Centro Cultural

Sunday, March 28, marks the 15th anniversary of the opening of Chapala’s Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo, formerly the town’s railway station.

Singer Andres Aguilar and pianist Fernando Palomar kick off the festivities with a concert on Friday, March 5, 6 p.m.

pg20bThe concert, titled Navigatoren Liederkreis, will feature a tradition of German songs from the 19th century, focusing on the art of navigation.

Says the Center: “In this case the songs will be a mix of word play and song fragments alluding to a form of life that is almost extinct on Lake Chapala and only lives on in the sporting events of urban sailors. The vernacular tradition of this past can’t be rescued in its totality, but will be explored by music.”
