Ballet School back

The Escuela de Ballet Clásico del Auditorio de la Ribera has opened enrollment for classes to be held as of August 2 at an alternate venue, with instruction offered to students of all ages. Health protocols will be obligatory. For information, call 331-895-6316.

Rauch sketches

pg12bA collection of previously unexhibited drawings by the late Georg Rauch will be showcased in a Collective Art Show opening Saturday, August 7, at Chapala’s Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia (CCAP)

Born in Salzburg, Austria, in 1924, Rauch produced an enormous body of work during the 30 years he made his home in Jocotepec, prior to his death in 2006. He explored a wide range of themes and styles depicted in landscape, still life and portrait works utilizing diverse media.

Co-sponsored by Galería Mónica Cárdenas and the municipal government’s Department of Culture, the group show will also feature works by 44 contemporary artists.  Saturday’s opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will continue through September 26, with tentative viewing hours set for 1 to 6 p.m. daily. CCAP is located in the former town hall building, Avenida Madero at Hidalgo.

New art in Ajijic

The Centro Cultural Ajijic will hold an opening Saturday, August 7, 5 p.m. for four new exhibitions: “Surrealism and Geometry in Space” by Santiago Hernandez, “Obra Negra” by Fernando Martinez Aguila, “Homo ‘Sapiens sapiens???”’ by Gregorio Orozco Hernandez and “Pasajeros” by Gustavo Lopez.  Juan Carranza will provide music for the opening.

Macramé art

“Nudalia” is the title of an exhibit of experimental ventures in macramé art that opens Sunday, August 8, 12:30 p.m., at the Centro Cultural González Gallo (CCGG), the former Chapala railway station. Fiber artists Diana Nájera, Larissa Meléndez and Ixchel Yué will show original works in which they stretch aesthetic possibilities to the last strand.

Opera

An Opera Gala with the Vivaldi chorus and orchestra performs selected arias from works such as Carmen and  Nabucco Saturday, August 14, 6 to 8 p.m. at La Estacion Pizza and Bakery (above Pancho’s Market) in Riberas del Pilar. Reservations: 376-688-1359.

Lakeside Little Theatre is requesting plays and directors for the 2022-2023 season. You can submit the name of the play by August 15 and if you wish to be considered as a director, identify yourself when you submit a play or musical you wish to direct. Community Orchestra

The Lake Chapala Community Orchestra presents “A Summer Serenade,” featuring music by Mozart, Faure, Telemann, Tchaikovsky and more, with special guest artists The Arche String Quartet and Ely Molletones, principal oboe in the Jalisco Philharmonic.

Concerts in the Park

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) hosts Mark Lopez giving a tribute to crooners such as Frankie Valli, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Michael Buble and Luis Miguel, among others, Sunday, August 22, while showgirl Christine Deaver’s seductive singing and comedy is on the bill for Sunday, August 29 at.  Two shows are scheduled for each performance, at 3:30 and 6 p.m. Tickets via the LCS website.

• The Medeles Band will play the Ajijic Pub House, Tuesday, August 10, 7 p.m.
