Art Walkers Tour

Art galleries and studios in Ajijic hold an Art Walkers Tour Friday and Saturday, February 16 and 17, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets, including a map, are on sale for 50 pesos at any of the participating galleries.

Art fairs

• Wood carvers Gordon Dick, Robinson Cook, Arthur Berry Campbell, and Hjalmer Wenstob from Vancouver Island, British Columbia will take part in the first edition of the Feria Internacional Arte Ajijic. They will star at the Mexico-Canada cultural exchange scheduled Monday to Friday, February 19 through 23, centered at the town plaza beginning daily at 10 a.m. An art auction will take place Thursday, February 22, 3 p.m. Local artists will also be showing on the plaza during this event.

• American Legion Post 7 Chapala holds a handmade artisans market every Tuesday from noon to 3 p.m. Find arts, crafts, textiles, ceramics, stationary foods and more. Live music. • Tekila Blues and Roll, Mary’s Island and Chelo Jonathan and Sergio will perform at a benefit concert for Saul Carrera, a 21-year-old who  recently suffered a serious motorcycle accident. Art classes

• Master potter Macario Covarrubias Murguía will give pottery creation workshops in four sessions, February 20, 22, 27 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, at La Bella Vida, Constitucion 6 in Ajijic. • Gabriel Lara-Art Studio & Workshops, Carretera 7, offers various workshops. In Open Studios you can work on your own project with your own supplies, or take art classes in painting and papier maché. Weaving workshops are held on February 29, March 1 and March 2, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

pg17b• El Silencio de los Ausentes, an exhibit by Aida Oceguera, opens Saturday, February 17, 4 p.m. at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia, corner of Madero and Hidalgo in Chapala.

• Efren Gonzalez and family host an art show opening at the Ajijic Museo del Arte, Sunday, February 18, 3 p.m. as part of the Feria Internacional Arte Ajijic.

• Artful Codgers Art Show, an exhibit celebrating Lakeside residents and snowbirds over the age of 60, continues through Wednesday, February 21 at the Ajijic Cultural Center (CCA) on the Ajijic plaza. All proceeds and donations from the show support the center. The CCA is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday.

• Beth Myers is offering limited copies of her original paintings at reduced prices at the close of her exhibit at Casa del Sol Inn Wednesday, February 21, 3 to 5 p.m. She will sign the works as you enjoy complementary Lemon Drop Martinis .

• The Art Show Amigas will showcase their work and that of famed photographer Mónica Cárdenas in front of her gallery on the San Antonio Tlaycapan Plaza Thursday, February 22, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

• “No Hablo Español,” an exhibition of a series of photographs by Phillip Malyard, inspired by Mexico’s magic realism and surrealism, is up at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera.

• Watercolorist Lois Schroff celebrates her 100 years with a Centenial Celebration exhibit of her art at the Casa del Sol Inn, with an opening Friday, March 1, 4 to 6 p.m. Wine is available and dinner can be reserved at 376-766-0050. Casa del Sol is at Javier Mina 7, Ajijic.

Cochera Cultural at 10

La Cochera Cultural celebrates its 10th anniversary with a first fundraising gala Saturday, March 2, 5 to 9 p.m. at La Cochera Cultural.

The 1,500-peso ticket price includes welcome cocktails and appetizers; a three-course dinner created by chef Oscar Perez (main course and desert preselection available); live performances by Juan Castañón, Eleazar Soto, Emilia Gálvez, Leonor Zertuche, Gilberto Ríos and Sergio Hernandez of Chiapas; a silent auction and a select live auction.

Proceeds will benefit the Festival de la Michi-Cihualli, (March 13 and 14), La Cochera Cultural’s free annual festival honoring the traditions of Ajijic, as well as a scholarship program for expanded community programming and continuing education for neighborhood families.
