Festival del Lago concerts

Students of the Festival del Lago Academy of Music will perform at the Old Hacienda del Lago, Saturday, August 10, 5 p.m. Solos performed by some of the students will be followed by the entire faculty performing Mendelsshohn’s epic Octet for Strings.

Other concerts by the Festival del Lago faculty are at Haus der Musik August 3, 6 and 8. Visit festivaldellago.com for all the information and to purchase tickets.

Centro Cultural Ajijic

pg13aThe center has planned a full schedule for August as it celebrates its 19th anniversary.

Saturday, August 3, 5 p.m. Exhibit opening of contemporary Mexican painters from Rista Arte Mio; a presentation of Arte Mio, a magazine of cultural journalism; a poetry reading by Oskar Santoscoy; and Mexican music by the Javier Raygoza ensemble.

Sunday, August 4, 4 p.m. Rising Star students from the Festival del Lago Music Academy perform a free concert on the Ajijic Plaza.

Thursday and Friday, August 8 and 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A mosaic workshop for children ages 9 to 15 takes place under supervision of Ilene Hass. No cost, all materials included.

Friday, August 9, 5 p.m. Jerry Mayfield gives an American country music concert.

Saturday, August 10, 5 p.m. Four students of Cecilia Garduño Ochoa offer a piano recital.

Auditions are being held for the musical comedy “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at the Bravo Theatre.  Suki O’Brien directs, with musical direction by Timothy G. LLT and CREM

Las Voces de CREM, the students of the Ajijic Music School, present two concerts featuring the children’s, youth and adult choruses at the Lakeside Little Theatre Friday, August 16, 7 p.m. and Saturday, August 17, 4 p.m. This is a benefit to support ongoing CREM operations and their October presentation of “The Sound of Music.” Tickets, 250 pesos, are available LLT’s box office July 20 and 21 between 3 and 4 p.m. or August 5 before the Festvial del Lago concert (4 to 5 p.m.) and on hour before the concerts August 16 and 17.
