Ribera Arts Review - November 23, 2024

Syrian/Mexican fusion

ArabLab, a music project featuring Arab music fused with experimental funky, jazz and psychedelic sounds, as well as subtle Latin improvisations, performs Saturday, November 23, 6 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera.

Comprised of Syrian expat Samah Abdulhamid, David Lopéz Luna, brother Julius Lopéz Luna, and Jonathan Huerta, Arablab’s musicians have varied backgrounds, spanning genres such as rock, jungle, classical, Balkan and Latin music. Graffiti workshop

Muraliz Arte Cosala is holding a Grafitti for Peace work-shop for artists from 15 to 25 years old, where they will learn technical skills while helping to create a mural in San Juan Cosala. Experience is not necessary to participate. The workshop is on Saturdays, and Sundays, November 23 and 24 and November 30 and December 1 at the Asociacion Pro Mexico Center, Calle Porfirio Diaz 15, in front of the main plaza in San Juan Cosala. • A presentation of the book “Las Siete Caras del Amor” (The Seven Faces of Love) by Carlos Cabello Flores, which explore the multiple facets of love from pain to joy and from passion to sadness, will be presented Saturday, November 23, 1 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera. Dr. Silvia Quezada and Ruth Escamilla Monroy will participate in the readings. Free entrance.

• The Lake Chapala Society holds a Christmas Fair on December 6 and 7, noon to 5 p.m., Some 70 local vendors sell Christmas gifts, arts, crafts and food as well as LCS Children’s Art Christmas cards. Admission 50 pesos, children under 12 free.
