Mariachi Real Axixic

Mariachi Real Axixic performs three concerts at Lakeside Little Theatre Saturday, August 23, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, August 24, at 1 p.m. Tickets, 400 pesos, are available at LLT’s website or box office one hour before curtain. A majority of the proceeds benefit the Ajijic Mariachi School.

Art Auction

Efren Gonzalez hosts a summer art auction featuring oils, watercolors, acrylics, photographs, and more, on Friday, August 22, 4 p.m. on the Ajijic Plaza. Liquid refreshments will be served.

FRIDAY

• Pianist Cesar Fernando Navarro gives a free concert, 6:30 p.m. at Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala. Hear classical and romantic masters such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin and Rachmaninoff.

SATURDAY

Recuerdos de Mexico, a traditional Mexican music production with a harp, violin and accordion, play at Huerto Café, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. 150 pesos cover. Reservations: 376-108-0843.

SUNDAY

Juan Manuel Ayala and Gilberto Rios give a free double bass concert 12:30 p.m. at Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala, playing music by Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, and Carles Banavent, among others.

The University of Guadalajara Coro de Cámara performs at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church on Sunday, August 24, 4 p.m., to raise funds to attend an international choral festival in Colombia

The Lanz Band performs a Creedence Clearwater Revival tribute, Tuesday, August 26, 6:30 p.m. at Scallion Ajijic Bistro. 100 pesos cover.

Dance

• A Ballroom Dance Show by Ocodance Academy, directed by Alejandro Ortiz, featuring Mexican and foreign dancers, will be held Sunday, August 24, noon. Xikantzy Ballet Folklórico, directed by Judith Olivarez, performs at 6 p.m. The performances will either be on the outdoor esplanade in front of the Centro Cultural Ajijic, or inside the building, located on the north side of the Ajijic plaza.

Exhibit

Casa del Sol Inn & Gallery will host “Collages,” an exhibit by recently transplanted New Mexico artist Edward Martin, with a meet-the-artist cocktail Friday, September 5, 4 to 6 p.m. Javier Mina 7, in Ajijic.

Artists of Lake Chapala

Artists of Lake Chapala will hold their first art show of the season on Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera in La Floresta on the Carretera.
