Cancellation

Viva la Musica has announced the cancellation of its November 20 String Quartet concert due to a conflicting charity concert in Chapala. According to a Viva news release, the performers are unable to play during the following week.   Anyone who has purchased tickets for this concert may obtain a refund at the Lake Chapala Society ticket booth on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to noon.

Dia de los Muertos Show

The work of local jewelry artist Sacha Frowine will be featured at Galeria Sol Mexicano from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 1. Frowine has designed a line of special themed pieces to celebrate el Dia de los Muertos. Galeria Sol Mexicano is at Colón 13 in Ajijic.

Little Theatre

Nobel Prize-winning author Harold Pinter’s “Betrayal” will open at the Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) on November 7. The intense drama about adultery and lies and the misremembered memories of love is directed by Neal Checkoway. “The story is told backwards and as we move into the past the audience is aware of what will happen and knows more than do the characters themselves,” says Checkoway. “In typical Pinter style, what is unsaid is often more significant than what is actually spoken.”

Photo Exhibit

“Recuerdos de Jocotepec,” an exhibition of the photography of Felipe de Jesus Moreno Ibarra, opens on Saturday, October 18, 7 p.m.  in the Studio-Gallery Metzcalli, at Careterra 40 in San Juan Cosala.

Xilotl in the Kiosco

Artist Isidro Xilonzóchitl of San Juan Cosalá will be honored at a 7:30 p.m. cocktail reception during the Saturday, October 11 opening of “Xilotl,” an exhibit of his newest body of work. The event will be held at the Pedro Morales graphic museum sala of the bandstand (kiosco) in the San Juan Cosalá plaza.

Lakeside Little Theatre

Lakeside Little Theatre’s season opener, “Bedtime Stories” by Canadian playwright Norm Foster,  hits the boards on Friday, October 3 and runs through Sunday, October 12. The theater is closed on Monday, October 6.

Directed by Roseann Wilshere, the play is an interconnected series of vignettes with some crazy and endearing characters. The cast includes Chet Beeswanger, Collette Clavadetscher, James Leonard, Tina Leonard, Judy Long, Kathleen Morris, Douglas Pinkerton, Ed Tasca, Michael Warren and Ken Yakiwchuk.

Tickets are 225 pesos. A season ticket for the six-play season is 1,100 pesos. The season ticket saves holders 275 pesos compared to six individual tickets.

Cultural Double Header

The Department of Art, Culture and Tradition of Jocotepec is presenting a pair of cultural events at the Casa de Cultura in Jocotepec on Friday, October 10, 8 p.m.

The evening begins with an 8 p.m. cocktail party launch for a pair of art exhibits. San Juan Cosalá artist Eduardo Xilonzochitl’s show is titled “De Piedrita en Piedrita.” Sharing the gallery with Xilonzochitl is the exhibit of Diana Gabriela Lozana, “The Color of Life.”

The local jazz group Acacia will entertain guests and then take center stage for the second of the evening’s events. With Juan Castanon on guitar, Miguel Soto on drums and Vico Diaz on bass, the trio will take part in a “movie-concert.” The group will play improv jazz to movie and animation clips of the Quay Bros.

Anniversary Exhibit

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Children’s Art Program, the members of the Ajijic Society of the Arts are hosting an art exhibition from Monday, October 27 through Thursday, November 6 in the Cultural Center of Ajijic.

This show will include works of art created by the children in the program over the past 60 years, many of them from the collection compiled by Lizz Drummond and Judy Boyd, the daughters of long-time program director, the late Mildred Boyd.

Included in the exhibition will be a retrospective featuring the childhood and adult works of more than a dozen “legacy artists,” local professionals who obtained their artistic start in the program.  Included in this illustrious group are Javier Zaragoza, Antonio Lopez Vega, Victor Romero, Antonio Cardenas, Jesus Lopez Vega, Efren Gonzalez, Bruno Mariscal, Javier Ramos, along with other favorite community artists.

The show will open with a reception on Sunday, October 26, from 3 to 6 p.m.  The exhibit will be open during the regular daytime hours of the Cultural Center of Ajijic until November 6.

Cantantes del Lago

ShowStoppers 9, the biannual Los Cantantes del Lago fundraising concert, is set for Sunday, November 2, 4 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. These concerts feature individual and small group numbers performed by members of Los Cantantes and have proven their appeal with Lakeside audiences.

Tickets are 200 pesos and are now available at Diane Pearl Colecciones, Mia’s Boutique, Los Cantantes members and on the new website: loscantantesdellago.com.

ASA Exhibit

Members of the Ajijic Society of the Arts will be showing their current work in a fall showing Saturday,  October 11 through Friday, October 24 on the first floor of the Cultural Center of Ajijic. The show will be launched with a 4 to 7 p.m. reception on the opening day. Other days, guests may visit the exhibit daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
