People of the Year

Most people here and elsewhere on the planet are generally contented to look at 2021 in the rear view mirror, hoping the road ahead for the next 12 months won’t be quite so bumpy.

Still, if we reflect on the bright side of last year there are a number of local people who deserve a pat on the back for significant achievements during these trying times.

An obvious nod for a Person of the Year acknowledgment would by Alejandro Aguirre Curiel who gained a majority of votes in the ballot box to be seated for his second term as Chapala mayor. And there’s José Miguel Gómez Lopéz who managed to get reelected as Presidente Municipal in Jocotepec.

How about a shout out to the Chapala soccer team for earning sub-champion standing in the Copa Jalisco competition last May. While the players missed out capturing the tournament trophy, they were awarded with a trip to Spain last September along with the rival victors from Cihuatlán and the top two teams in the female division (Cabo Corrientes and Zapotlán el Grande), with travel expenses paid by the state government.
