VIEWPOINT: Can foreigners protest in Mexico?

Some expats are wondering if their participation in protests against President Trump and U.S. federal policies could break Mexican laws. Here’s the short answer: not really.

No kings close upYes, Mexico has laws (specifically Article 33 of the Mexican Constitution) that restrict foreign interference in its domestic politics, but this doesn’t stop foreigners from protesting issues in their own countries. In fact, Mexicans are getting quite used to seeing foreigners raise their voices about politics at home. Not only the recent Hands Off protests by U.S. expats but, recently, we’ve seen a global array of protesters: Ukrainians, Venezuelans, Palestinians and Israelis have all staged peaceful rallies.
