Book Fair begins
Over 500,000 guests are expected to visit the 32nd International Book Fair (FIL) from Saturday, November 24, to Sunday, December 2 at Expo Guadalajara.
The nine-day event is the world’s largest literary gathering where more 400,000 titles in a multitude of languages will be available for purchase, in addition to approximately 200 literary agents and 2,000 publishing houses from 47 countries in attendance. Besides prime-time book shopping, attendees should take advantage of the 30 presentations, seminars and round-table discussions open to the public. Special tributes are also going to be paid to various Portuguese literary figures, various Nobel Prize winners, and Ida Vitale, the 95-year-old Uruguayan poet who is to receive the FIL Literary Award in Romantic Languages. Chocolate Festival
Satisfy your hankering for all things chocolate at Guadalajara’s third annual Chocolate and Cocoa Festival on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2. Just in time for the holidays, expect to find countless gifts and stocking-stuffers from local vendors at the Sunday market. On the agenda are also educational exhibitions, workshops, conferences, tastings and loads of children activities. Festivities will be at the Club de Leones on Avenida de los Leones 75, Colonia Tepeyac Casino, in Zapopan. Entrance costs 20 pesos, while children under 15 and adults over 60 have free admission.
Bus fare hike protest
Students will demonstrate Sunday, November 25 outside the Casa Jalisco, the official residence of the state governor in Guadalajara, to protest moves to increase all bus fares in the metropolitan area to 9.50 pesos. The protest is expected to start at 4 p.m.
