Traditional Mexican food in Metro Park

Fans of “traditional” Mexican food should make a bee line for the Parque Metropolitano this weekend, for the 6th Encuentro Regional de Comida Tradicional, organized by the Jalisco Culture Department.

This free-of-charge festival, which in previous years has taken place in downtown Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, will run daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and feature at least 30 cooks from nine Mexican states: Aguascalientes, Colima, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Zacatecas.

Cooking workshops are scheduled throughout the day, focusing on salsas, the use of molcajetes and other traditional food preparation techniques.

Free food tastings are scheduled on each day between 3 and 4 p.m.  Around 1,500 servings will be available, organizers say.

Mariachi bands perform on all three days at noon, while the Corazón del Cielo indigenous ceremony will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. The final musical performance on Sunday at 3 p.m. will be courtesy of the Orquesta Típica de Chapala.
