World AIDS Day marked in Ajijic

Thanks to the organizational activities of Ajijic Cares, World Aids Day was commemorated on December 1 for the first time in Ajijic. Throughout the day members of VIHAS de Vida, the Guadalajara educational and support group, visited two high schools and were on hand on the Ajijic malecon handing out information about HIV/AIDS.

More than 100 area residents attended a sunset ceremony in the malecon amphitheater to remember those living with HIV/AIDS and those who have died from the disease. Musicians closed the observance with the song “Stand by Me,” which was recorded by Ben E. King and released in 1967.

Ajijic Cares is currently planning a spectacular February event to raise funds for VIHAS De Vida so that the group can continue the educational aspect of their work in Guadalajara and at Lakeside and the support they provide for those living with the disease.
