This year was an especially happy Mother’s Day for moms in Mezcala thanks to Chapala Sunrise Rotary and the generosity of the Lakeside community.
Funds contributed by community members ensured that each mom received a bouquet of flowers and candies. Business donations from Mia’s Boutique, Flexi Shoes and Todo Bueno provided a bounty of upscale toiletries and lotions, chocolate hearts, earrings, nail polish and friendship bracelets that filled the 80 boxes that were packaged by Rotarians the week before and distributed on May 10.
The effort was coordinated by Rotarians DWayne and Valerie Hartup, whose family ministry provides several feeding programs and educational opportunities in Mezcala, including English classes and seminars on health and wellness.
A grateful Mezcala mom reciprocated, giving Valerie a Mother’s Day gift of her own along with a big thank you for all the work that she and her family does for the village.
