Bare Stage begins life with comedy-mystery

Although the Naked Stage closed in September, fans of readers’ theater at lakeside can continue to enjoy the genre thanks to launch of the Bare Stage Theatre, which will present shows on the last weekend of each month.

pg19For its first reading, Friday, October 26, Bare Stage Theatre has chosen “Art of Murder” by Joe Di Pietro, a comedy-mystery with a thin overlay of chat about the more ruthless aspects of the art industry – perfect for Halloween and Day of the Dead.

The story centers on artist Jack Brooks, who mistreats his wife, Annie, and everyone around him, using the fact that he is an amazing artist as an excuse to act out. His agent Vincent Cummings shows up and between the gunfire and drowning, things begin to go awry.

The show features Kathleen Morris, Jon de Young, Tina Leon and John Ward and is directed by Arleen Pace.

Bare Stage will hold general auditions annually, in addition to individual auditions for shows on an as-needed basis. This is a great opportunity for local actors to have fun on the stage without all the work of memorizing the lines. This year’s general auditions will be held in mid-November. The theater is also looking for directors (e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
