CASA feasts on refreshing summer fare

At the May 20 meeting of the Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA), members enjoyed an incredible array of delicious, interesting cold soups and salads for a main course, and cookies and bars for dessert.

pg16dMonica Molloy, first place main course winner and the first Bing Award recipient of the year, wowed the crowd with her Thai salad rolls with shrimp and BBQ pork, with Hoisin and peanut sauce. Roberta Kalan took second place for her chilled pineapple soup shots and third-place winner Leslie Rogers’ ajo blanco soup also tied for best presentation.

In the dessert category, Michele Lococo won hands down for her turtle bars, Sally Myers took second place and people’s choice for Savannah cheesecake bars, and Carol Westbrook brought home third place for lemon blueberry bars.

CASA  is committed to stimulating the exchange of gourmet culinary ideas and creativity in a friendly, social forum that rewards unique methods of presentation and the creation of delicious flavors.

The society also sponsors various culinary students at the local technical university. Look for CASA custom-made, all-natural cotton grocery bags that will help the dreams of these future chefs become reality.

CASA’s next meeting is Monday, June 17, 4 p.m. at the Monte Carlo Hotel in Chapala. Presentation categories are picnic basket main course and tarts and pies for dessert. Information: ajijiccasa.org.
