Weekly Worship - August 24, 2019

Lake Chapala Baptist

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 states, “Be joyful always. Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Anybody can be joyful when things go well. Are others able to know you are a Christian by your actions? What happens to you when the day (or week or month) goes badly? Then it is not so easy to remain joyful. Actually, we may become quite unpleasant. We may forget to pray and give thanks for all the good in our lives. We all have so much to be thankful for and must not forget that during times that are difficult. When the going gets rough, that is the time we most need to sing praises because we do not know what God will use those stresses to teach us. He uses all things for our good. Sometimes God “stirs things up” so that, through our responses, we can showcase His transforming grace and joy.

Brother John Whitener will be preaching all of August.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. English-language Sunday school, 9:45 a.m.; English-language worship service, 11 a.m., and Spanish-language worship service, 12:30 p.m.

Many English-speakers in Mexico understand how it feels to live in a place that isn’t quite “home.” This is an experience comparable to our lives as believers in Jesus. How do we live in a world that isn’t truly our home?

Little Chapel by the Lake

Who has not wanted to experience God? If God is for real, then why wouldn’t we want to know him? Is it because we have invented a God that is not real, a counterfeit God that suits us? How does a God who IS love, and therefore loves justice, deal with mankind? Will a single sermon supply all the answers? Doubtful. But it will give you food to nourish your soul and spirit.

Unitarian Universalists

In this service called “Making Our Way in the Universe: The Path of Religious Naturalism,” we will examine religious naturalism and how it combines a naturalistic worldview using science as a basis for understanding what is real. It combines with a religious orientation, including spiritual feelings like wonder and gratitude, and values rooted in nature, such as cooperation within groups and balance in ecosystems. This combination appeals to those of us who approach the world both empirically and emotionally. We’ll explore some ideas of Religious Naturalism, among them, its central creation myth, which describes our origin and place in the universe.

Sunday, August 25, Rev. Matt Alspaugh gives the sermon and Bob Koches leads the service.

The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church. More information: 376-766-2299.

Abundant Life Church

The Bible clearly teaches that there is a distinct difference between believers and the world. Just because the world says that they believe doesn’t mean they actually do. Sometimes there needs to be a transformation in the life of the individual in relation to God. God knows who belongs to him and they are sealed with his name through that transformation process.

Sunday, August 25, Pastor Gary challenges us to get the image of God stamped clearly upon us. The world marks what belongs to them. It should come as no surprise that God marks those who belong to Him. Join us as a community of the “Marked” ones.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. Weekly Sunday worship services, 10 a.m. and Bible study in English, Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish language services, Sundays, noon, and Bible studies, Fridays, 6:45 p.m. Children’s ministry, Saturday, noon, and youth, Saturdays, 6 p.m.

The church is at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. Information: 331-417-7038.

Home Church Int’l

The word “idea” always seems to spark some immediate attention when revealed. It is usually when one person or a group is searching for a revelation or solution. Often it deviates from information which is already at hand. An idea may fulfill a need, visually or intellectually. The one dispensing the idea has no small amount of hope that it will be accepted or make an impact.

It is curious to find that ideas are not prominent in the Bible. God’s actions are simply Him acting out what’s already integral to His Being. He releases them at His appointed time. Amazing that the word “idea” is not even found in the Bible. God’s constant interaction seems to nullify the need for human ingenuity. And, it will be understood that He is sovereign and seeking our worship, faithfulness and obedience. He is not looking for our cleverness to “help Him out.”

pg15bPastors Paul and Susana Allen remind us that our place before Him is to “seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness.” Find the pastors on their website at homechurchintl.com and reach them at 332-242-8648, or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
