Lakeside school fosters outreach on women’s health

With the aim of increasing public awareness on symptoms and treatment of breast cancer, the Campus Universitario (CUOP) and the non-profit Grupo Reto joined forces to offer local women a conference on the disease, coupled with access to 180 mammograms provided at no cost.

pg21The program, entitled “Let’s learn to prevent breast cancer and accept living with it,” was presented Thursday, December 5 at CUOP’s Chapala classroom facility. Among the women in attendance, 140 signed up for the diagnostic test carried out at a clinic in Tonalá that included free transportation from lakeside. The five participants who tested positive for breast cancer will receive follow-up exams and orientation on low-cost treatment options.
