CASA hosts festive holiday party

The Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) holiday party held Monday, December 16 was “a very festive atmosphere with gorgeous presentations, not to mention delicious dishes,” says Monica Molloy.

pg21Poinsettias were on each table and Christmas music played in the background. Participating gourmands presented botanas and holiday desserts and also enjoyed a catered meal.

There was a tie for first place in the botanas category between Leslie Rogers’ polenta bites with mushrooms and Dennis Brann’s cheddar-blue Christmas gift. Brann also took the presentation award. Beverly Denton won second place and people’s choice for her mushroom walnut appetizer, while third place went to Carol Van Gorp for a holiday rye bread with beau monde dip.

Carol Westbrook had a hat trick, winning first place, people’s choice and a Bing award for her pistachio rose with rum, fruits and nuts. Geanie Tilley took second place for Amaretto marzipan Christmas balls with Amaretto chocolate centers and Janet Jorch won third place for her tres leche berry parfait.

Next month, CASA meets Monday, January 20, 3:30 p.m., and participating members will present soups and stews and savory breads at the Hotel Montecarlo.
