Chapala to host kayak fishing tourney

Lake Chapala has been selected as the battleground for the second annual Kayaker Golden Elite (KGE) black bass sport fishing tournament, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, headquartered at La Cristiania Park.

Up to 100 kayakers armed with fishing poles and artificial bait are expected to enter the catch-measure-and-release contest, with 100,000 pesos in prize money split up among first place contestants in men’s, women’s and youth categories.

The kayakers will start congregating Saturday, March 14 from 4 p.m. to finalize registration and join a pre-tournament tailgate party. The tourney runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. the following day. Find further information and tournament rules posted on the KGE Facebook page.

Size will count for kayakers reeling in black bass from Lake Chapala during next weekend’s Golden Elite fishing tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to competitors registering the greatest accumulated length of the five largest specimens they capture.
