We all have been concerned about how our neighbors are surviving the economic turmoil of businesses closing over the past weeks. LPC has stepped up our feeding ministry in response to the need. Our doors may have closed, but our kitchen has been open! Just two people have cooked hundreds of meals for local people - including the families of the kids in our literacy program, and for the men and women in two local drug rehab centers.
With financial help from Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club, we have more than tripled the number of despensas we normally provide to more than 200 in the past four weeks with delivery from San Antonio Tlayacapan to Santa Cruz de la Soledad. Some Rotary Club donations came from the US; LPC is proud to be part of an international effort. One of the surprises for many of us as we’ve delved deeper into the history of the United States of America is how deeply racism and white supremacy is woven into so much of the legal and cultural framework of the country. Racism is pervasive and yet at times seems hidden in plain sight - until it explodes in often destructive and violent ways. In Jungian psychology such an aspect would be called a “shadow;” in an individual the shadow would be qualities that the person hides, represses, and denies. Could racism and white supremacy be shadow qualities in a nation or a culture? How might we address the presence of such a shadow; how might we “work for a cure?”

Christ Church
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will celebrate the second Sunday After Pentecost, June 14, with the Holy Eucharist at 11 a.m. via ZOOM. Rev. Jim Powers will celebrate and Deacon under training Jerry Stiles will give a message with the theme “The Apostles.”
Food distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 1 p.m. at the last soccer field on Calle Revolucion (where Ajijic’s Wednesday market is held). Help is always needed to fill the buckets with food for distribution to the very needy.
The Bible Study group meets via Zoom on Wednesday, June 17, 1:30 p.m. to learn about the inspired contents of the Bible and share their insights with each other.

Fellowship
It’s almost impossible to avoid what’s going on in the world today. I know people who are angry, sad or confused. And the question comes, “If you believe in God why doesn’t He do something?” That assumes that the sovereign Lord of the universe operates in ways that the questioner thinks are right. But consider what God says in Isaiah 55, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” No, I don’t know why God doesn’t intervene the way we think He should, but I do know this, earlier in Isaiah 55 He tells us what we should do: “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.” There’s coming a day when all wrongs will be made right but today each of us needs to repent of sin and put our trust in the Lord. He knows what He’s doing.
