The 2020 rainy season has suddenly arrived with none of the customary fanfare.
And it came upon us with little of the usual prior grousing about the oppressive summer heat, the unexpected delay of its onset, or the noisy village celebrations normally taking place this month. Most everyone has been more preoccupied with fears about Covid-19, news of criminal abductions and other local issues.
Conventional wisdom dictates that the temporal de lluvias begins on June 13, Día de San Antonio, and falls into a regular rhythm by June 24, the Feast of St. John the Baptist. The cancellation of these ever-watery festivities may make some folks wonder whether disappointed deities held off the precipitation in revenge for being denied collective hubbub customarily raised in their honor.
