Weekly Worship - October 31, 2020

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Red Button Covid-19 restrictions announced Wednesday, October 28, to be put in place as of Friday, October 30, have caused some confusion in whether worship services may be held in person for the next two weekends.

According to the state regulations, they may not, but some churches may hold them nonetheless. Contact your preferred house of worship for an update.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

The Reverend Robbin Moore will preach. At this time, St. Andrew’s also will consecrate the new mural of “The Dancing Saints,” painted by local artist Javier Zaragoza. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available live through a YouTube channel link that you can find on our website, along with a bulletin that can be downloaded.

The parish annual Harvest Comida put on by Social and Hospitality — roast turkey with all the trimmings and dessert prepared by Chef Pedro, of Go Bistro — will be held Monday, November 9 with a “take-out” format. Tickets are 275 pesos each, and may be purchased through November 2 in the church garden from 10 a.m. to noon. Here at Lakeside most of us have come from another countries, We have passports that confirm our identity. But do you know what your heavenly passport says? Those who have believed and received Christ Jesus have passports that read; “Citizen of Heaven.” We are no longer divided by nation, tribe, or tongue. We are one! Since our union with Christ, we are called children of God. We are members of one family of the household of God. No longer divided, but knitted together; one Father, one Spirit, one Lord.

Pastor John Linton has been teaching from Ephesians 2. His teaching takes us through the Old Testament reminding us of the great division that existed between the Jews and Gentiles (non-Jews). Gentiles were once separated  (living apart)  from Christ; estranged from the rights of Israel as a nation with no knowledge of, or right, in God’s covenants — no promise. Gentiles were in the world without God. But now in Christ Jesus, Gentiles who once were so far away, through the blood of Christ have been brought near. Gentiles are no longer exiles, migrants, and aliens excluded from the rights of citizens but share the citizenship with God’s own people belonging to God’s household. If you are in Christ Jesus your heavenly passport reads; “Citizen of Heaven.”

Lakeside Presbyterian

Sunday, November 1, at the 10 a.m. service of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church (LPC), worship services are at facebook/lpcchapala or www.lpcchapala.org. Devotionals are on the same sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Slave, Child, or Heir? This Sunday, Pastor Carolyn will continue with the series on Galatians 4:1-7. Children need rules. People consider adults to know the right thing to do without directions. But we still often struggle with recognizing the difference between spiritual maturity and legalism. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians a letter that argued passionately against legalism so that they would grow and not be spiritually stunted. Are you growing spiritually? Or do you continue to be a child?

LPC supports some feeding programs at San Antonio Tlayacapan, Mezcala, La Cuesta, and La Zapotera Villages. At each location, an average of 70 children receive meals three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This week LPC delivered 36 despensas (pantry supplies) for a total of 662 despensas delivered from January to October. We insert some Bible verses in every despensa and one Daily Bread to share the Gospel, since it is the primary goal of the church’s mission. LPC will appreciate your donations.

LPC also deliver despensas on behalf of the Rotary Club, with a total so far this year of 1,116.

Abundant Life Church

God wants a personal relationship with everyone. Although most of those who call themselves a believer would agree with this statement, there are few who take the time to develop that relationship. Rather than talking directly with God, many Christians choose to do what they have always done hoping that God will bless them. They faithfully attend church, sing songs and give their offerings but God wants more than our traditions. He wants us!  Sunday, November 1, Pastor Gary will challenge some of the things we do as believers and the reasons we do them, so that we can have the relationship God wants us to have with Him.

Since the state governor has closed all churches down on the weekends for two weeks, the service will be virtually transmitted live via our Facebook page, YouTube channel, and at abundantlifec-hapala.com.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico. English Bible study is Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sundays, noon, and Spanish-language Bible study is Friday, 6:45 p.m. Abundant Life Church, Carretera Chapala-Joco 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Lakeside Community

Fellowship

Jesus often taught people by using parables. Perhaps you’ve heard this definition of a parable, “A parable is an earthly story with a heavenly meaning.” The idea is that something of earth, which is familiar, is placed alongside something of heaven, which is mysterious, so that our understanding of the one can help us understand the other. It’s a picture of things seen intended to reveal and explain things unseen. Jesus’ disciples understood the secrets of the kingdom because they received Him as King. Their faith allowed them to understand and appreciate the secrets of His kingdom.  Others who had rejected Him couldn’t be given those secrets, they had no interest. To anyone who receives Jesus as the Lord of their lives He gives the ability to appreciate, and possess the principles and privileges of the kingdom. Others who refuse allegiance to Him are unable to understand, or enter into, the kingdom. So, to anyone who is denied entrance into the kingdom, it’s only because of their disloyalty to the King. But Jesus, because of His love, continues to seek to draw them toward faith in Him.

The church meets online every Sunday at 10 a.m.
