The Lake Chapala Baptist Church reopens again for in-person services Sunday, November 15, 11 a.m. Covid protocal will be adhered to, including masks, social distancing, sanitizing, etc.

A mystery in the New Testament sense is something that had been completely hidden, absolutely unknown, and totally unexpected.
The apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter 3 reveals a mystery that was made known to him by God. Pastor John Linton speaks of this mystery in his sermon where Paul opens the chapter with the fact that he is a steward of God’s grace and has been given charge to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles (non-Jews). This is the mystery of God’s revelation that Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members of one body and share together in the promise of Jesus Christ. Now the distance between Jew and Gentile is done away, disunion done away, division done away, dissension done away, distinction done away. Both Jew and Gentile are now both reconciled to God, have peace with God and both have access to God.
This is a mystery to non-believers until the Holy Spirit reveals it to them. In God’s eyes, we are all brought together in unity as one body. The Sovereignty of God does not depend on man’s opinion of one’s race, color, tongue, tribe, or denomination. There is no division of church. It is one in the body of Christ. A great mystery, totally unexpected until it was revealed to the apostle Paul and now to us.
Christ Church
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 24th Sunday after Pentecost, November 15, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist at 11 a.m. with an in-person, socially distanced service in La Huerta Eventos Facility, the location of the Tuesday Organic Market. Rev. Danny Borkowski, will celebrate and give the message “Wicked and Lazy” based on Matthew 25:14-30. The service will also be available via Zoom hosted by Rev. Jim Powers.

Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, November 15, 11 a.m., Little Chapel welcomes Pete Campbell, from Grace and Truth Ministries in Guadalajara, as our guest speaker during the worship service celebrating with scripture reading, praise and thanksgiving in song and prayer.

Can you tell the difference between genuine friends and the people who want to use you for their purposes? It is not always obvious. In this section of the book of Galatians, the Apostle Paul is fighting for his beloved friends’ souls. He wants them to learn how to differentiate between those who genuinely love them and those who are only pretending for the sake of their interest.

LPC supports some feeding programs at San Antonio Tlayacapan, Mezcala, La Cuesta, and La Zapotera Villages. At each location, an average of 70 children receive meals three times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This week LPC delivered 32 despensas (pantry supplies): 22 in San Juan Tecomatlán, seven in Chapala, three in San Antonio. We insert some Bible verses in every despensa and one Daily Bread to share the Gospel, since it is the primary goal of the church’s mission. LPC will appreciate your donations.

Abundant Life
Our heart is seen and understood by those around us. Jesus teaches that all our actions flow from our heart and that whatever we have in abundance will be either enjoyed or cause pain to those around us. How we act, the words that we use and our priorities are all recognized by others. Are you like Jesus? Jesus preferred others over himself and lived to bless those around Him. He teaches that those who are in relationship with Him will do the same.

Fellowship
“Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him, but my righteous one shall live by faith.” (Habakkuk 2:4) The first part of that verse, “Behold, his soul is puffed up” describes the nature of a proud person who refuses to trust or even acknowledge God. He or she is a lost soul. The second half of the verse really doesn’t need any explanation; it’s a simple statement, “My righteous one shall live by faith.” What we have here are two philosophies of life. The first is that of the “puffed up” person, filled with pride, a graphic picture of self-sufficiency. By contrast God’s “righteous one,” the believer, trusts the Lord no matter what the circumstances are. He’s confident the Lord is at work even when he doesn’t see it. And that confidence in the living God allows him to live a life of faith. The statement, “my righteous one shall live by faith,” is a philosophy that has been demonstrated by believers throughout biblical history from Genesis to Revelation. It really is the theme of the Bible, from beginning to end, “the just shall live by faith.”

The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will provide services via Zoom. Instructions for accessing the online service are at lakechapalauu.org. Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “Possibility” at the Sunday, November 15, 10:30 a.m., service.
Possibility is hope in action. I love the teaching of Margaret Wheatley: “There is no power greater than a community discovering what it cares about. Ask: What’s possible? not What’s wrong? Keep asking.” We’ll explore what possibilities are in front of us and how we might act on them. Lorna Dean is the service leader.
