Losing My Religion is the title of Pastor Carolyn Hansen’s sermon this week, taken from Philippians 3:4-11.
When the Apostle Paul was confronted with a blinding light on the road to Damascus, he met Jesus Christ. This event changed him completely. He ended up renouncing everything he had once zealously fought for. In his letter to the Philippian church, Paul explains why his new faith is worth so much more than his old religion.

On the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, August 22, St. Andrews is open for worship. All Covid-19 protocols are followed and masks must be worn. The Reverend Robbin Moore will preach and celebrate Holy Communion.
A live-stream service, accessed at standrewsriberas.org, begins 10 a.m. St. Andrew’s has resumed its after-worship coffee and cookies social time.
St. Andrew’s feeding program is again collecting non-perishable food items (beans – canned, dry, red, black, lentils, etc.) to donate to Operation Feed.

This week’s topic by Rev. Matt Alspaugh is “Opening Our Eyes, Finding Our Vision.” Do we have visions for the coming phases of our lives? What do we yearn for, what do we work for? The world has changed a lot in the recent past, maybe it’s time to re-examine, even to change our visions. How do we do this? Carl Jung said, “Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.” Together we’ll explore how we might look within to find our individual and collective visions for the coming days. Heidi MacLennan will be the service leader

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, August 22, by celebrating a Holy Eucharist service, in person and via Zoom, 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church Lakeside’s location, two doors east of, and on the same side as the La Huerta Eventos Center. Rev. Linda Ramos will celebrate and Rev. Jim Sheets will give a message “Bread, Bread, Bread … and more Bread” based on John 6:56-59. Masks are required.

Continuing in his series “A Lion Roars out of Zion,” Pastor John Linton delivered a powerful sermon this week drawing parallels between the epic battles described in the book of Amos and the polarized good-versus-evil environment across the world today. “What’s important is to know which side you’re on,” he says. God is speaking to the Church today, just as He warned the violent nations Amos wrote about so vividly. “The time is now. May we not be caught by surprise when the Lion roars.”

God loves to give us gifts and bless our lives but there are times when He seems to take away what we thought we had. How do you react when you feel like you are losing something? Believers all around the world are under intense persecution. Afghanistan as a country is suffering and the believers there are faced with the real possibility of losing everything including their lives. We don´t need to get upset about losing something that God has asked for. Come Sunday, August 22, to understand how God can use even our losses for His glory.
