Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, October 10, the congregation welcomes back Pastor Pete Campbell from the windy city of Chicago.
He will preach at the 11 a.m. praise and worship service of the Little Chapel by the Lake, located on the Ajijic-Chapala Highway #10 in Chula Vista.
To contribute to our monthly food distribution in San Juan Tecomatlan, drop off donations in the big purple box in front of the Chapel. Thanks to all those who helped with the distribution last week.
Women’s Bible study continues at the Little Chapel Tuesday, 10 a.m., in the book of Ephesians.

Conversational Spanish is Fridays at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, open to all who are interested in improving their spoken Spanish.
Unitarians
The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is now offering in-person services for those who are fully vaccinated at the fellowship hall located on the Carretera at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar (and also on Zoom). Covid 19 protocols are followed and masks are required.
Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Résumé and Eulogy Virtues,” at the Sunday, October 10, service.
A few years ago, New York Times columnist David Brooks wrote a column in which he noted the difference between what he called “résumé virtues” and “eulogy virtues,” with résumé virtues being “the skills that you bring to the marketplace, while eulogy virtues are “the ones that are talked about at your funeral.” This concept, of résumé versus eulogy virtues, engendered a lot of conversation. It’s especially salient for those of us who are in our tercera edad (third age) of life, and we begin to evaluate what we’ve accomplished and what we still have to offer. We’ll explore some of these questions, and how they relate to our happiness and wellbeing.
Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a Parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Christ Church of Mexico, will observe the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, October 10, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Service in person and via Zoom at 10:30 a.m. in our location two doors East, and on the same side of the La Huerta Eventos Center.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
On the 20th Sunday after Pentecost, October 10, St. Andrew’s Anglican is open for worship. All Covid protocols are followed, and masks must be worn.
The Reverend Robbin Moore will preach and celebrate Holy Communion. A live-stream service, accessed online through standrewsriberas.org, begins at 10 a.m.
St. Andrew’s feeding program is collecting rice and other non-perishable food items to donate to Operation Feed. Cash allows us to buy bulk rice at the lowest prices to help feed even more families; see pledge envelopes marked “RICE” available every Sunday.

Quoting from last Sunday’s sermon by Pastor John Linton: “Amos wasn’t politically correct. In fact, he was brutal in his goal to shock hearers into alertness. God, through Amos, uses poetry and song to enter into the prodigal, self-absorbed world and ruthlessly expose it.”
What was true during the godless times portrayed by the prophet Amos is true across the globe today. “...And when the Church starts to look like Sodom,” said Pastor John, “well, we’re in trouble. But no matter how wrong anybody gets it, God will be true to His word. And when evil abounds, so much more does grace abound.
“Brothers and sisters, let us be sure that our worship is pure. Let us come to God with a pure heart, and never reject the grace that God gives us.”

What should a believer use as a method of understanding and preparing for the events of the day? Today there are a lot of things happening in the world and many well intentioned believers and even Bible teachers look at current events to discover if we are in a Biblical time of prophecy. Should the church be using current events and newspaper articles to determine her response? Is it possible to live ahead of the curve, knowing what is coming and be prepared for it before it happens instead of simply reacting?
