The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is now offering in-person services for those who are fully vaccinated at the fellowship hall located on the Carretera at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar (and also on Zoom). Covid 19 protocols are followed and masks are required.
Sunday, October 31, 10:30 a.m., Rev. Matt Alspaugh, will talk about The Mexican holiday “Día de los Muertos.” This celebration invites us to explore the meaning of death, life, afterlife, and our connections with people living and dead. As part of our service, a virtual ofrenda slideshow of loved ones and friends who have passed on will be featured. Dee Dee Cahmi will be the service leader.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
On the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, October 31, St. Andrew’s Anglican is open for worship. All Covid protocols are followed, and masks must be worn.
The Reverend Robbin Moore will preach and celebrate Holy Communion, and Brother James Twyman will preach. A live-stream service, accessed online through standrewsriberas.org, begins at 10 a.m.
St. Andrew’s Book Club meets Mondays, 10:30 a.m., in the parish garden. The current book is “The Whip,” by Karen Kondazian.
St. Andrew’s feeding program is collecting rice and other non-perishable food items to donate to Operation Feed. Cash allows us to buy bulk rice at the lowest prices to help feed even more families; see pledge envelopes marked “RICE” available every Sunday.

Lakeside Presbyterian
This Sunday, October 31, Pastor Wayne will give the sermon “The Law Giver,” based on Genesis 3:1-6. Certainly one of the most important characters in the Bible was Moses. He led the Hebrew people out of slavery in Egypt, and to the very edge of the Promised Land. He gave God’s chosen people the law of God that reflected the will of God. He was another imperfect man that was used by God in a mighty way. While God may not speak to us through a burning bush, there are some important lessons to be learned from this man of God.
LPC has returned to in-church services at 9:30 a.m. for the English language service and 11 a.m. for the Spanish language service.
All masking and social distancing protocols are in place.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a Parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, October 31, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Service in person and via Zoom at 10:30 a.m. in our location two doors east, and on the same side of the La Huerta Eventos Center.
Rev. Linda Ramos will celebrate and give a message “Love God and Neighbor” based on Mark 12:28-34. Masks are required.

Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, October 31, Pastor Pete Campbell will speak on his new series “Quality Leadership and Lifestyle” from the book of Titus at the 11 a.m. praise and worship service of the Little Chapel by the Lake, located on the Ajijic-Chapala Highway #10 in Chula Vista.

To contribute to our monthly food distribution in San Juan Tecomatlan, drop off donations in the big purple box in front of the Chapel. The next distribution is Wednesday, November 3, a change of day due to the celebrations going on with Dia de los Muertos on Tuesday. Carpool from the Chapel at 3 p.m.
Women’s Bible study continues at the Little Chapel Tuesday, 10 a.m.
Conversational Spanish is Fridays at 1 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, open to all who are interested in improving their spoken Spanish.

“The weight of our text this morning lies heavily on worship.” That is how Pastor John Linton began his sermon last Sunday. “Israel, as described in the Book of Amos, was prosperous and successful, with impressive worship. But Israel — like so many countries, cultures, and churches today — had descended into deep corruption, and their worship had become a charade, a smoke screen which hid the darkness and wickedness of their hearts.”
Do we even understand what true worship is these days? It’s a valid question.
“True worship,” Pastor John said, “produces love and justice. The opposite of ritualism is love for God. ‘Let justice roll down like living waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream!’” (Amos 5:24)
“True worship is a manifestation of a correct inward posture. Before even expressing worship, the love for God must apply. It is a matter of the heart. If there is a lack of love, no ceremony, no feast day, no sacrifice, and no singing will ever suffice.
“And when we love God, we will have a right relationship with our neighbor. Our love for God will influence the way we treat others. Is this not the greatest commandment that Jesus has taught us, to love our neighbor as ourselves?”

What is needed to share the gospel in a foreign land? Some may answer: You better know the language. Language is definitely a key when sharing the gospel as many English speakers know living in Mexico, but raw communication skills are not the first priority in God´s sight. Every believer can learn a language but it is first important that we have something to say before we know how to say it. Come this Sunday, October 31, as Pastor Gary shares with us the all too often missing key in sharing the Gospel.
