Chapala cited for transparency omissions

The Chapala government is once again under the gun of Jalisco’s Institute of Transparency and Public Information (ITEI) for omitting fundamental information required on its official website.

During a session of the ITEI Council, held Wednesday, January 26, the Chapala municipal government was ordered to post curricular information about its officials, as well as data regarding any administrative sanctions.

The order gave the municipal government a 15-day window to comply with the request or demonstrate that the solicited information is non-existent.

On the flip side, the council ruled that the government has fulfilled its obligations concerning four other public information requests filed last year, which delve into matters of the government’s payroll, vehicle fleet and internal regulations.

The current administration has been dealing with technical issues in managing and updating the www.chapala.gob.mx website since the October 1, 2021, change of government.  Problems have hampered the Transparency Unit’s ability to respond to the backlog of information requests it inherited from the previous government, along with those filed over the past four months.

Last November, the ITEI Council imposed a fine of 13,443 pesos on Chapala’s former transparency director Víctor Merino for failing to fully comply with his duties.
