Art auction to benefit ailing veterinarian

More than 30 works of art and dozens of other items of artistic value will be up for grabs at an auction organized to benefit distinguished Chapala veterinarian Pepe Magaña, who has been recently diagnosed with cancer.

pg16The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 31, at the Pablola Galleria de Arte, Calle 16 de Septiembre 1 in Ajijic. The registration for buyers starts at noon, with the gavel coming down on purchases between 1 and 4 p.m.

The listing includes the cost of starting bids. Among the offerings is a charming black-and-white photograph titled “Downward Dog” donated by David Lorenz Winston and utilized for the auction’s promotional poster.

Magaña is not only one of Lakeside’s most experienced vets, but also a devoted animal welfare advocate. For many years his clinic at Hidalgo 99-A in Riberas del Pilar and a family property located outside Chapala have provided refuge for abandoned and injured domestic animals and wildlife species, as well as temporary care for creatures up for adoption.

Friends and admirers are calling on the community to support the vet with a heart of gold in his time of need. Cash donations to the cause are also gratefully accepted and may be delivered directly to the Magaña clinic in closed envelopes.
