Donors rally to help FoodBank Lakeside

FoodBank Lakeside’s One Million Peso Challenge to keep the essential local charity afloat financially so far has exceeded 400,000 pesos in donations.

To further explain FoodBank’s perilous finances, representatives will speak Sunday, November 13, 10:30 a.m., at Open Circle, at the Lake Chapala Society. This presentation will feature first-hand accounts by FoodBank Lakeside’s local Mexican coordinators who dispense food monthly, as well as by those who receive food.

“Supporters, new and longstanding, have quickly responded to FoodBank Lakeside’s plea for donations,” said Steve Taylor, co-chair of the One Million Peso Challenge. “We are close to getting enough pesos to serve meals to impoverished children in 2023, and to continue providing basic food items to needy families, the elderly and disabled.”

The Challenge was announced September 22 after the organization’s finances revealed it expected to run out of funds by the end of this year.
