Lake Chapala Baptist

“Did you know,” interim Pastor Ed Garnet asked us last Sunday, “that psychological warfare makes it possible to defeat the enemy without ever laying a hand on him? Goliath taunted the Israeli army for 40 days before young David came forward to stand against him. Satan’s attacks are often psychological in nature. The human mind is Satan’s playground, his primary target.

“Are you facing a giant adversary like Goliath? Disease, devastation, the debilitating terror of death itself? Then you are engaged in a spiritual battle. Are you ready for a spiritual battle? Are you on God’s side? Do you trust your life completely to Christ?

“The purpose of all spiritual battles is simply to glorify God. May we never be afraid to lay aside our fears and trust the Lord wholeheartedly.”

Abundant Life Church

How safe are your passwords? We have a situation today where many websites, internet groups and social media require passwords and we are told that they should never be the same. We often just allow our operating system to suggest a password and then trust it to remember. While passwords are needed on the internet, did you know that we also use passwords in our real life? The way we speak, act and respond to situations give clues to the people around us to our personality and the way we are feeling. These passwords are witnessed by everyone. Come Sunday, November 6, to discover how important it is to God that every password we use brings Him glory.

English Sunday service is at the church at 10:30 a.m., also at abundantlifechapala.com. Spanish language services are Sunday, 9 a.m. and noon.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico. Bible study in English is held at 11 a.m. each Wednesday with Spanish language Bible studies on Friday at 6:45 p.m.

Carretera 140 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, just a block from SuperLake.

Heart of Awareness

The Heart of Awareness Buddhist Community and Practice Center is located at Guadalupe Victoria 101 in Ajijic. Activities at the center are open to all—no experience required. Chairs and cushions are provided and there are written instructions for beginners.

The First Sunday, November 6, there are three “rounds” of sitting and walking meditation between 9 a.m. and noon. Come for 1, 2, or all 3 hours.

On Wednesday, November 9, a practice period from 4 to 5 pm, will be followed by the first in a series of talks on The Five Hindrances. These are obstacles that arise in our meditation practice—and in our lives—that throw us into confusion. At the heart of all Buddhist wisdom lies one astonishing truth: a way out of suffering and into a more deeply fulfilling life is not a myth, but a reality available to you the moment you open your eyes through the power of skillful inquiry, to learn Buddhism’s essential principles and insights. We begin the Wednesday series with a recorded dharma talk by Jack Kornfield. A discussion period follows the video, and this Wednesday session will end at 6:15 pm.
