Our next distribution, on December 6, will include our Christmastime cookies, blankets, jackets, and holiday treats for the children. Any blankets, jackets, and other warm clothing items are greatly appreciated at this time of year.
Tuesdays, 5:30 p.m., a small group meets at the Chapel for fellowship and prayer. We will share our thoughts, insights and prayers.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the first Sunday of Advent, November 27, 10:30 a.m., in person and via Zoom at our location with the red door and windows next to The Smokehouse Restaurant. Last Sunday, Interim Pastor Blair Smith returned to deliver a sermon titled, “God Is Not Served by Human Hands.”
“The apostle Paul was at his missionary best in Athens, where he told some of the finest philosophers on the planet that they had lost their knowledge of the one true God who created them. This of course did not sit well with Paul’s listeners, and began the downward slide to his beheading. Nevertheless, while he had breath, Paul tried to reason with them in the synagogue, markets, and even from prison to prove that Jesus was indeed the Messiah.
“God gives life and breath to everything; He is the great benefactor of all mankind. Every obedient step we take is dependent on grace from God. ‘Call on Me,’ He said, ‘I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me!’”

Sunday, November 27, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “The Only Lasting Truth is Change.”
The title is a quote from Octavia E. Butler’s seminal work, “The Parable of the Sower” This line points to the theological wisdom found in many religious traditions, and perhaps more importantly, in the lived experience of many of us. We’ll explore how we can befriend, even embrace change in our lives and the world around us. This is also the end of our pledge campaign. We’ll celebrate and ponder what changes may be ahead of us at LCUUF in the months and years ahead.

Lakeside Presbyterian
Pastor Wayne Cook draws interesting parallels between our own younger years, and the experiences of long-ago peoples from the time of Haggai. Dr. Cook’s text is from Haggai 1:1-4.
“When I was growing up, my parents and grandparents gave a lot of advice, and sometimes warnings. If I was arguing with a sibling while we were driving, they would say, “Don’t make me stop this car.” I decided I would never say that to my kids. But after hearing them yelling in the back seat, my mind suddenly dredged up those old recordings and I would blurt out, ‘Don’t make me stop this car.’
“As a kid, I had not lived long enough to realize adults acquired their wisdom through the years by making mistakes. Often bits of wisdom or warning were expressed by common truths. My parents were perhaps hoping I would listen and avoid the mistakes they made, but I usually had to find out the hard way they were right all along.
“That same kind of advice is given from God by Haggai to the Jews returned from captivity in Babylon. After 15 years, they had made no progress in rebuilding the Temple to worship God. Let us look at the lessons from God.”
English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m., Spanish-language service at 11 a.m. Bible study is Wednesday, 10 a.m.

A Celebration of Love, Light, and Peace will be held Saturday, December 3, 4:30-6 p.m. on the Carretera, in front of Pranzo Restaurant and the large modern sculpture. An opportunity to promote good feelings and actions during the holiday season with a peaceful celebration of love, light and peace. Abundant Life Church
There are important people in the world and many clamor to hear them, but the one who is most important is Jesus. Everyone needs to hear Him, but that is not always easy, as he speaks through His Word which is often misquoted or plainly misused. Sunday, November. 27, we analyze the importance of speaking only the truth as believers. The world is not always able to know when something is misinformation so the gospel must be presented clearly and truthfully.

Heart of Awareness
Heart of Awareness in Ajijic will be screening a monthly movie matinee, “Precious Guru: The Wild Heart of the Second Buddha,” Monday, November 28. The film details the life of the eighth century tantric master Padmasambhava, revered for centuries as the “second Buddha,” who is widely credited with bringing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet. His adventurous life and legacy has come to exemplify a powerful truth: it is the darkest times in our lives that carry the greatest potential for transformation.
In addition, The Heart of Awareness’ online auction fundraiser continues until November 30. There are over 55 items to be “re-homed”. Auction proceeds will go towards programs and operations expenses at the Heart of Awareness. Donated items with a Buddhist theme, many of them objects of art, will go to the highest bidder.
