Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, February 19, the topic is “The Path of Love.” Since 2009, Unitarian Universalists have gathered at social justice events in their bright yellow “Standing on the Side of Love” T-shirts, and over time, we’ve become known as “The Love People.” The Love People is a good description for us, for a key part of our theology is love. We’ll consider how love in all its forms defines how we as UUs are in the world, and how love might guide us in our lives. Rev. Matt is the speaker and Heidi MacLennan is the service leader.

The talk at the February 26 service will be “Imagine, Stories from Ukraine, Macedonia and Lakeside,” featuring returned Peace Corps volunteer Jud Dolfin as speaker and Carol Johnson as service leader.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. In-person services are now available at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptists

Sunday’s sermon, titled “Servants to Model your Life After,” was all about Epaphroditus, a disciple of Jesus beloved by the apostle Paul. Epaphroditus was a man of good standing in the church, a man who possessed (or was possessed by) the heart of a servant, and a man of great courage. And he was our life example for last Sunday’s message from Pastor Linton.

“It’s hard for us to get in touch with the model of sacrificial living,” he said. “Chosen as an ambassador to serve Paul, Epaphroditus is known as the people’s disciple, who exemplified the spirit of sacrifice for the sake of Christ.

“To minister to another’s need is so personal, so precious, a form of worship,” Pastor Linton told us. “Think of it as a sacred priestly action. Are we all at work in God’s kingdom? We should be! Are we content to do God’s will, whatever the cost, even death? As true Christians, we should be!

“Beloveds, do not fight with your Christian brothers and sisters, fight alongside them, fight for them! Adopt an Epaphroditan attitude. Are you willing?”

Share memorable weekly sermons, uplifting music, and an ongoing thirst for true wisdom Sundays, 10:45 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church. Sta. Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. LCBC’s bilingual services are Sunday, 4:30 p.m.

Lakeside Presbyterian

This Sunday, February 19, This week Pastor Wayne will talk about: “Ministry.”
The letter of 2 Corinthians is an encouraging one, written by Paul to his beloved church in Corinth. Paul had founded the church, but after he had left, troublemakers arose who criticized his message and his apostleship.
There was at least one instance of immorality that had been ignored. He wrote them the letter that we call 1 Corinthians, and followed with a painful letter which has since been lost.
Paul later revisited the church, and had some success in restoring the faith of the congregation. Thus, 2 Corinthians is likely the third letter Paul wrote to the church, and in it, he expresses a number of important themes. From this letter, we can glean valuable insight into the challenges that the Corinthians faced and the lessons they learned from Paul’s words of encouragement.
