As the first blush of moving to lakeside starts to fade, most new residents find themselves confronted with uncertainties about the practicalities of daily living.
They wonder about places to shop for groceries and household furnishings, where and with whom to seek health care services, public transportation options, and how to deal with financial needs.
While many tend to rely on the area’s multiple social networks for answers to these and other questions, recommendations in the replies are sometimes sketchy, confusing and even contradictory. An excellent way to find a well-rounded orientation to the community is the Introduction to Lakeside program offered by the Lake Chapala Society. (LCS).
The three-hour seminars are scheduled each month in two formats: the in-person sessions held at LCS campus for groups of four to 30 persons, and the live online course transmitted via Zoom for four to ten participants.
“Basically, the seminar covers 101 things you need to know to successfully settle at Lakeside,” says course instructor Barbara Harkness. “A little history, a little geography and a lot of practical information about banking, shopping, dining, medical care, long- and short-term care, entertainment, recreation and activities, transportation, housing and utilities.”
