Lake Chapala Orchestra sends quartet to Italy

Last weekend saw the culmination of a fundraising campaign initiated by the Lake Chapala Orchestra to provide a travel bursary for four of its musicians who have been invited to appear at the prestigious Virtuoso and Belcanto International Music Festival being held in Lucca, Italy from July 17 to 30.

pg21bBrenda Galvin, Mariana Hermosillo, Luis Barrios and Isaac Reynega will be representing Mexico as some of the finest young musicians in the state of Jalisco, and will perform under the name of The Kanus Quartet.

In total, through the orchestra’s GoFundMe campaign and a substantial amount of local cash donations, the quartet was presented with a cheque for 50,880 pesos at their concert Saturday, June 24 in Riberas del Pilar.

The concert was attended by a capacity audience who were captivated by the quartet’s performances of works by Haydn, Shostakovitch and Beethoven.

“The community has, once again, supported our endeavors in fostering the amazing talents of our young musicians. On behalf of the players a great big thank you goes out to all those people who contributed to the travel bursary,” said Michael Reason, the orchestra’s artistic director.
