Lakeside Presbyterian

Sermon title for Sunday, November 10, is “Confession Helps Make Us Good” from Titus 1 John 1:5-10.

If people are inherently good, why is it so tricky to stay on the right path and so tempting to stray? We were created with goodness at our core, but we’ve stumbled into sin and death. Despite this, most of us genuinely strive to be good, and we feel true guilt when we fall short. Sunday, November 10, Pastor Carolyn will explore the next aspect of the fruit of the Spirit: goodness. God’s forgiveness is available if we confess our sins. Confession is a powerful spiritual discipline that lifts the weight of guilt from our shoulders and draws us closer to our true nature of goodness.

Sunday English-speaking worship service begins at 10 a.m. The English-speaking service also streams each Sunday at Facebook.com/LPCChapala.

Heritage Baptist Church

Acts 3 shows the powerful demonstration of the gospel through the miraculous healing of a man born lame. Peter and John were arrested and brought before the Sanhedrin. In court they were constrained by the Holy Spirit to declare the gospel message. Sunday’s text: Acts 4:12 declares, “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Peter shows that salvation is essentially in Christ alone. Isaiah 64:6 warns “we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rages…” The Sanhedrin knew the best they could do was still unacceptable to God.

Peter shows that Salvation in Christ is exclusive, “there is salvation in no other name.” It is in Christ alone that salvation is found. There is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.” This emphasizes the fact that not only is there no other name by which one is saved, but in fact God now commands all people everywhere to repent.

This applies to all of us today.

Eckankar

Everything revolves around love. It always does. No matter how much we rush about in this world and how harried, ambitious, or sorrowful we become, the world stays together for some reason. The reason is God’s love. It makes the whole work, even though sometimes it looks like nothing is working at all.

The two supreme laws are: God is love, and Soul exists because God loves it.

But how do you make this work out in everyday life? Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it Kind? You can also ask, What would love do?

Everyone has some experience with love—even a child who has a pet kitten or a dog. Soul is trying, to give back or respond to God’s love that’s coming through. (The above text is from Spiritual Wisdom on Relationships by Harold Klemp.)

You are invited to meet with other like-minded Souls for open non-denominational spiritual discussions Tuesdays, 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Lake Chapala Society.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Do other dimensions exist? The multiverse theory is nerdy science fiction. But a recent Spiderman movie has teenagers playing with the thought of realities that we can’t see. A generation earlier, the Lord of the Rings movies popularized Frodo putting on a ring that made him invisible, yet then made him suddenly aware of powerful beings in another dimension. Religions of all kinds have long promoted the idea of good and bad spirits, otherworldly creatures, and realities beyond our sight. How do you see that? When otherwise intelligent people are secretly checking horoscopes or consulting mediums or sticking a special crystal in their pocket, what do you do with that? Are these the leftovers of a primitive past or is there a reality beyond our five senses? The Bible claims that extensive supernatural systems and powers exist, yet that Jesus Christ is Lord of all of them. Let’s explore together!

English worship service is Sundays at 10:45 a.m. with Pastor Dan Klassen. English-language Bible study is Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesday at 10 .am. Lake Chapala Baptist Church, Santa Margrita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Information: office: 376-765-2925; cell. +1-508 -838-9156.
