TEDxAjijic to bring powerful stories to Lakeside community

TEDxAjijic will make its debut on the shores of Lake Chapala on Saturday, March 22, introducing the Mexican Cancer Tapestry to the community.

pg14aThe Mexican Cancer Tapestry aims to visually represent a thousand cancer stories, encompassing not just the science behind cancer care and the treatment process, but also the human experience of battling cancer. It highlights the compassion and care provided by doctors, nurses, and medical staff, as well as the love and support from family, friends, and the wider community.

The concept of the Cancer Tapestry began with TEDxAjijic speaker Andrew Crummy. In 2017, while undergoing treatment for throat cancer, Andrew’s oncologist, Dr. Ioanna Nixon, noticed him sketching during his chemotherapy sessions. This sparked the idea for the Cancer Tapestry. The first tapestry project was launched in Scotland, where Andrew was being treated, and now the concept is being brought to Mexico with the creation of the Mexican Cancer Tapestry.

TEDxAjijic is a locally organized event licensed by TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. The first TED event took place in 1984 in Monterey, California, celebrating the convergence of technology, entertainment, and design. Since then, TED events have become an annual tradition. In 2009, TED began licensing TEDx events to spread thought-provoking and innovative ideas worldwide. Today, more than 3,000 TEDx events are held globally, and all TED and TEDx talks are recorded and available to watch on TED.com.
