LCS advances restoration of Ajijic’s Wilkes Education Center

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) has completed the first phase of restoration work at the Wilkes Education Center (WEC), marking a significant step in transforming Ajijic’s only public library into a more dynamic community learning hub. The initial improvements, finished in late 2025, lay the foundation for expanded programs and services that will continue to roll out throughout 2026.

pg11aThe renovations will allow LCS to restore many of the center’s pre-pandemic community programs while significantly expanding literacy, youth development, and educational offerings. New partnerships with local organizations are expected to extend operating hours and broaden services for students, families, and adult learners.

Like many libraries worldwide, the Wilkes Education Center is evolving beyond a traditional book-lending model into a multifaceted community space, designed to serve as a welcoming resource for learning, connection, and personal development.
