Weekly Worship - May 23, 2026

Lakeside Presbyterian

Sunday, May 24, 10 a.m.,  Rev. Carolyn Hanen will give the sermon, Everything Is Never Enough: Where Am I Going With My Life?” from Ecclesiastes 4.

We may not think so, but we tend to spend our days asking and answering that question a million times. It shows up in our thoughts like: “How am I doing today?” “What am I going to do after I finish doing what I’m doing now?” or even “Why am I working so hard?” and “What am I living for?” We spend enormous energy trying to build lives that feel meaningful, successful, and secure. But Ecclesiastes 4 suggests that our endless focus on ourselves may actually be part of the problem. The Teacher invites us to ask a different question altogether: “How are we doing?”

What if meaning is found not in getting ahead, but in learning how to live together?

English-language service is at 10 a.m. at Constitución 26, in Ajijic, 2nd floor. Enter through the back garage area and walk upstairs. For those with limited mobility, there’s also a small elevator at the front. Join us for coffee and refreshments after the service.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Jesus did not rescue us merely to spare us from wrath, but to display the immeasurable riches of His grace through Christ Jesus. Once we were wandering in darkness—spiritually dead, divided, hopeless, and far from God—yet He drew near with mercy stronger than our rebellion. He raised us from the dust of sin and seated us in the hope of heaven so that every redeemed life would become a living testimony of His kindness. We are not trophies of our own strength, but masterpieces of His grace—saved to walk in the good works He lovingly prepared before our hearts ever knew His name.

English worship service is Sunday at 10:45 a.m. with Pastor Dan Klassen. English-language Bible study is Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Choir practice is on Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to noon. Unitarian Universalist

Rev. Sarah A. Shirley presents “Unity: Variations on a Theme” at the Sunday, May 24, noon service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Rector of St. Andrew Anglican Church, Rev. Shirley’s presentation will address such questions as, What is unity? Is it achievable on the earthly plane? Is it something that human beings actually desire? Her message is informed by the controversial nature of ‘unity’ as a spiritual principle, which made worldwide news in January 2025 when The Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar-Budde preached on it at the (U.S.) National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The response? A mix of kudos and death threats. Shirley’s talk explores the concept and value of unity in light of these responses, as well as other local aspects of how unity is at work among both the Anglican and UU congregations here at Lakeside, along with the mutual values each group cherishes.

The Service Associate is Hyacinthe Miller and the musician is Wiley Beveridge.

All services of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship are held at San Lucas 19, Riberas de Pilar. For more information: lcuuf.org. Services are broadcast live. See the website for Zoom directions.

Common Ground Fellowship / Little Chapel by the Lake

Sunday, May 24 at the 11 a.m. service, Dr. Wayne Cook continues his series on denominations, when he will be speaking on the origins and doctrines of Baptists. His text will be from Romans. “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore, we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

CGFLC is a bilingual, friendly, and all-inclusive place to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe the church exists primarily for the benefit of those outside it as we seek to make Christ’s love known to others by serving our community in a feeding ministry and various other forms of aid. Additionally, we gladly accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. We also host Saturday’s car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s boys’ home 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. And we have a Saturday outreach to children in need in Chapala.

There is a time of singing on Sundays, 9 a.m. and a prayer time at 10 a.m. The main worship service begins at 11 a.m. and includes a children’s church. Wednesdays at 5 p.m., Belva Velazquez leads a Bible Study.

Christ Church Lakeside

At Christ Church Lakeside, Anglican Church of Mexico, we gather this week for Pentecost Sunday to celebrate the birth of the Christian Church. The Book of Acts tells us of the miraculous events of that day, when the disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and enabled to speak in many different languages, spreading the message of the Gospel to the diverse crowds gathered in Jerusalem. Scripture describes “tongues of fire” appearing over their heads as they proclaimed the truth of Christ with boldness and joy.

In commemoration and celebration of this important day in the life of the Church, we invite everyone to wear red as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and join us for worship, fellowship, and a potluck lunch following the service. Please bring your favorite dish to share as we celebrate together in faith and community. All are warmly welcome.

The May Sing-along will be on Tuesday, May 26, at Nursing Home Lake Chapala at 4:30 p.m.

Thursdays, we invite you to join us at 1:30 p.m. for our weekly Bible Study with Rev. Danny Borkowski. You may attend in person or by Zoom. Call Danny at 376-766-2495 for directions and Zoom details.

Christ Church Lakeside is located on the Carretera in West Ajijic, next to the Smokehouse Restaurant. No matter where you are on your faith journey, you are welcome to join us—we are all seekers.
