Unitarian Universalist
The topic this Sunday, June 21, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is “Sailing the Sea Together: Presenting Our Mission and Vision.”
Since January, more than half of LCUUF congregants have responded to survey questions and contributed in face-to-face small groups, talking about what makes us “us.” A small task force has navigated through the data collected, analyzing, writing, disagreeing—respectfully—and rearranging into written form a mission statement and a vision statement. You will see the results of our discussions during this service, and we will choose a route that can help us go forward together.
The talk will be given and the service conducted by members of the task force: Jim Reeves, Priscilla Taylor, Susanne Bjorner, Marsha Buly, and D’vorah Kelley. Wiley Beveridge will provide the music.

Common Ground Fellowship / Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, June 21, Dr. Wayne Cook begins a new sermon on the 10 Commandments of Christ, beginning with the first one: Love God. As a devotion, Dr. Cook put together his own list of the 10 commandments of Christ. Jesus was accused by the religious leaders of being a lawbreaker because he didn’t follow the law the way they did. His disciples gathered grain on the Sabbath while they were very careful not to do any work on that day. He didn’t practice ritualistic hand washing. He hung out with sinners that made him unclean. And he made the astounding claim that he had not come to destroy the law but to fulfill it. Were the religious leaders right in their accusations? Come this Sunday and see.
CGFLC is a bilingual, friendly, and all-inclusive place to worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We believe the church exists primarily for the benefit of those outside it as we seek to make Christ’s love known to others by serving our community in a feeding ministry and various other forms of aid. Additionally, we gladly accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. Among our missions, we also host Saturday’s car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s Boys’ Home, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and, lastly, we have a Saturday outreach to the poorer kids in Chapala.
Our main worship service at 11:00 includes a children’s church. You can also join us at 9:30 for prayer and singing before the service. Belva Velazquez teaches a Bible Study on learning scripture more deeply. Wednesdays, 5 p.m.
