Rev. Laura Barrett Bennett is Unity Ajijic’s minister-in-residence for July. Descending from a family of ministers, artists, and musicians, she is the third generation to dedicate her life to ministry. Laura currently serves at Unity of the Heartmind Ministry in Overland Park, Kansas.

Lake Chapala Baptist

D’Vorah Kelley will present “The Seven UU Values in Words and Actions” Sunday, July 5, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist in a changing world? While we claim no shared dogma, we are bound together by a powerful set of shared values. Join us this Sunday as we explore the “Value Flower” – a vibrant framework of Justice, Interdependence, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, and Generosity, all rooted in a central core of love.
Through story, song, and reflection, we will move beyond abstract ideas to look at the concrete actions we can take to live our faith out loud. Whether you are a lifelong UU or a seeker looking for a spiritual home grounded in deed rather than creed, you are welcome here.

Common Ground Fellowship / Little Chapel by the Lake
Two weeks ago in Dr. Wayne Cook’s message, he said that loving God is not a sentiment but a surrender — that we love Him more than our family, more than our money, and more than our own lives. Nothing on earth is permitted to compete with God for the throne of the heart. This Sunday, Dr. Cook continues his sermon with: Love Your Neighbor. Now Jesus adds a second commandment, and He fastens it to the first commandment of loving God with an astonishing word. He does not say it is almost as important, or a close second. He says, “And the second is like it.” There is no daylight between loving God and loving your neighbor. “On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:40). Pull out either beam and the whole house comes down.
CGFLC is a bilingual, friendly, and all-inclusive place to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We believe the church exists primarily for the benefit of those outside it as we seek to make Christ’s love known to others by serving our community in a feeding ministry and various other forms of aid. Additionally, we gladly accept donations of clothing and non-perishable food items that go directly to families in need in our purple donation box in front of the Chapel. Among our missions, we also host Saturday’s car wash fundraiser for Mama Cleo’s Boys’ Home, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and, lastly, we have a Saturday outreach to the poorer kids in Chapala.
Our main worship service at 11 a.m. includes a children’s church. You can also join us at 9:30 for prayer and singing before the service. Belva Velazquez teaches a Bible Study on learning scripture more deeply. Wednesdays, 5 p.m.

Sunday, July 5, at 10 a.m., Carolyn Hansen will give the sermon, “The Extravagant Farmer,” from Mark 4:1-20 as the second part of the series “The Parables of Jesus: What Is the Kingdom of God Like?” We often think of Jesus’ parables as simple stories with easy lessons.
But if we read them carefully, many of them are puzzling, provocative, and even a little unsettling.
Most of us know this as “The Parable of the Soils.” But Jesus called it “The Parable of the Sower.” Why? This familiar story is about far more than different kinds of soil. It reveals a God who scatters his Word with astonishing generosity—even where it seems unlikely to take root.
English-language service is at 10 a.m. at Constitución 26, in Ajijic, 2nd floor. Enter through the back garage area and walk upstairs. For those with limited mobility, there’s also a small elevator at the front. Join us for coffee and refreshments after the service.
