Christ Church, Little Chapel
Christ Church will have no service at the Little Chapel by the Lake (in Riberas del Pilar) on February 3 because of the Diocesan Synod that will meet at St. Paul the Apostle Cathedral in Guadalajara (Zapopan) from February 1 to February 3.
The Little Chapel will hold a pot luck fellowship following services on Sunday, February 3.  The topic for Sunday’s sermon by Rev. Gene Raymer is “God and Golf.” The congregation will participate in communion following the sermon.  All are welcome to the interdenominational services at 11:15 a.m.
St. Andrew’s Anglican
When Jesus preached His first sermon, in His home town of Nazareth, those who heard Him wanted to lynch Him!
At St. Andrew’s this Sunday, the Rector’s hope is that the congregational response will be more muted. But whenever and however the Word of God hits home, it can be very much like a two-edged sword, cutting painfully close to where we live, and forcing us to decide: Yes or no? Accept or reject? Change or turn away? “Outside of Nazareth” is where they wanted to throw Jesus off a cliff, and it’s where we still find ourselves, deciding whether to follow or turn back.
Sunday worship at St. Andrew’s takes place at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., with a time of refreshment, welcome and fellowship in the garden between the services.
Pancakes
Looking forward, St. Andrew’s invites all of their neighbors to join them for the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper beginning at 5 p.m. (social hour at 4 p.m.) on February 12.
The cost is 50 pesos. Sign up at the church on the next two Sundays or call the church office at 376-765-3926. All are welcome.
The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (February 13) with a service at 10 a.m. A Lenten Bible Study will also start at 11 a.m. that day and will continue for seven weeks, focusing each Wednesday on “The Hard Sayings of Jesus.” Call the Church office (765-3926) to sign up. St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the animal shelter in Riberas del Pilar.
Presbyterians
Pastor Ross Arnold is continuing his series on “Meeting Jesus in the Gospel of Mark” at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. His message February 3 will be “A House Divided,” with Mark 3:20-30 as the text. Worship begins at 10 a.m. The Women’s Open Prayer Circle meets on Thursday, February 7 at 10 a.m. The Friday morning interactive Bible study will continue in the Book of James at 10 a.m. on February 8. Lakeside Presbyterian Church is located on the mountain side of the Carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant. (Extra parking is now available on the other side of Vigolari.)
Lakeside Presbyterian Church is staging a giant bazaar to raise money for local Lakeside charities. (The church doesn’t keep any of the money they raise doing this). The event is slated for Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church located on the mountain side of the carretera just west of S&S Auto and Bubba’s Restaurant.
