Open Circle

Open Circle has suspended its weekly program on the patio at Lake Chapala Society.

Each week it highlights a different video of a past presentation. This week, Olga Kaplounenko presents “Nine Romantic Songs in Two Romance Languages, plus Russian and English.” It will be available for view Sunday, August 2, 10:30 a.m. at opencircleajijic.org.

Our favorite Russian chanteuse will enchant us with nine romantic songs from different countries sung in Russian, Italian, English and Spanish.

Kaplounenko is a Muscovite who earned a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, as well as a degree in music and jazz vocals from the Moscow Jazz College. She was a guest researcher in Denmark, Sweden, and later in Silicon Valley, where she worked for 16 years. While in the United States, she sang solo and in different choirs. When her husband (recently deceased) was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2011, they moved to lakeside where she’s been involved with Los Cantantes del Lago and has participated in the Lakeside Little Theatre productions “Drowsy Chaperone” and “Tickle Your Fancy.” She also plays piano and guitar, but singing is her passion.

U.S. Voter Assistance

Live U.S. voter assistance via Zoom is being offered by VoteFromAbroad.org every Sunday until the November election. On the homepage of DemocratsAbroad.org, click on the “Drop By For Live Voter Help” image for more information. Also found on the Mexico page of Democrats Abroad is the schedule for live voter registration and absentee ballot support sessions.

These tutorials are being presented by various chapters of Democrats Abroad in Mexico. The next sessions are planned for August 2, 9 and 16.

Overseas U.S. citizens and dual-U.S. citizens must submit a Federal Post Card Absentee (FPCA) form every year they wish to vote. The Lake Chapala Get-Out-the-Vote team is asking people to first try to complete their FPCA online at VoteFromAbroad.org.

This process is very user-friendly. Only a device (computer, tablet or smartphone) with a camera and access to the internet is needed. Easy-to-follow instructional videos are available on how to register to vote and request overseas absentee ballots at DemocratsAbroad.org/mx.

If lakeside residents still encounter obstacles after consulting these resources, they are encouraged to write to the Lake Chapala team for assistance at This email address is being protected from spambots.
