Dr. Daniel Acuff presents “Extraordinary Living” at Open Circle, at the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic, Sunday, June 19, 10:30 a.m.

They will be invited and sometimes challenged to look at questions related to how they are currently fulfilling their needs and how this contributes to one’s level of happiness. A high and consistent degree of happiness is a goal of extraordinary living, Dr. Acuff says.

Dr. Acuff has been a conference speaker and workshop leader — often in front of more than 6,000 participants — in countries as diverse as South Africa and Norway. He has led seminars and workshops on multiple topics, including relationships, breakthrough performance, success, excellence of communication, handling of breakdowns, integrity, creativity, self-expression, leadership, health and fitness, excellence, commitment and sex and intimacy. He has consulted with key figures from major corporations such as Disney, Kraft, Hallmark, Kellogg’s, ABC TV, M&M Mars, Marvel, Sega and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.

Dr. Acuff is also the author of 14 books and a variety of articles related to human needs and motivation, communication and relationship.

Chapala Birders

Friday, June 24, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet 8 a.m. at the sculpture at the traffic light in La Floresta, opposite Restaurant Pranzo and also at 8:15 a.m. at the Pemex near the intersection of the Chapala-Guadalajara Highway with the Libramiento, leaving immediately for the Lake Cajititlan Marsh (a 30-minute drive). Expect to see a variety of marsh and lake birds such as black-necked stilt, and whistling ducks.

There will be a break for snacks at 11 a.m. Expect to be back in Ajijic by 1 p.m.

Father’s Day (Sunday, June 19)

• Casa Del Sol Inn’s brunch is serving steak and eggs for Father’s Day, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations: 376-766-0050. Javier Mina 7, Ajijic.

• The American Legion Post 7 Chapala Ladies Auxiliary will host a pancake breakfast and garage sale to celebrate Father’s Day. Breakfast is from 9 to 11 a.m. The garage sale will go from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bar will be open and a liquor basket will be raffled.

• The Iron Horse Saloon in Riberas del Pilar is offering Mike and the Suspects’ Chicago Italian Beef Dips for Father’s Day. Music by Daniel Cordero at 3 p.m.

Lakeside Freethinkers

The next meeting of the Lakeside Freethinkers is Monday, June 20, 4 p.m. and will be a social get together hosted by one of the members. Members or guests should come prepared to discuss any topic of interest to them.

The Lakeside Freethinkers define a “freethinker” as a person who identifies himself or herself as an atheist, agnostic, secular humanist, or skeptic. They reject belief in the supernatural and rely on science and reason to guide their lives.

Plan for your pet in the afterlife

Juanita Crampton gives a seminar at the Lake Chapala Society on Post Life Planning for Pets, Wednesday, July 6, 10 a.m. to noon. Sign up at the LCS office or website. The class is designed to offer detailed information regarding how to create a plan for pets when the owner is no longer able to care for them because of death or disability. Crampton will provide examples of plans, discuss community resources available, explore the challenges of creating a plan, and assist in the actual creation of individual plans.

Crampton had a career in social services, helping to identify community resources for low income and developmentally disabled adults. She has been a business owner and product developer. A lifetime animal lover, she has rescued animals with the Humane Society, Greyhounds for Pets, and from the streets of Mexico.
