Alicia Knox and Greg Kemp present “Lessons from ‘Coco’: Preserving Family Stories” at the Open Circle meeting on Sunday, October 19, at 10:30 a.m., held at the Lake Chapala Society.

Revisit cherished Día de Muertos traditions and the powerful lessons of Disney-Pixar’s “Coco.” This talk encourages preserving stories, honoring ancestors, and building family legacy — core values deeply rooted in Mexican culture and especially meaningful for adults focused on generational connection.

Knox and Kemp are lifelong educators, storytellers and certified biography instructors, and are passionate about helping people preserve their life experiences.

 

Workshops

Inspire CoLab in San Antonio Tlayacapan is holding four workshops:

• An 8-session embroidery colors workshop using traditional techniques is held on Mondays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting October 20.

• An 8-session photography workshop will be held on Thursdays, 4 to 5:30 p.m., beginning October 23. Must have a digital camera.

• A fermented beverage workshop is on Saturday, October 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• An introduction to sourdough bread workshop is on Sunday, October 26, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Johnny’s Cocktail Lounge, Gonzalez Gallo 86 in San Antonio Tlayacapan is sponsoring “Johnny’s Feud” every other Monday, with a session on October 20, 5:30 p.m. Grab your friends and come have some fun.

Free rabies vaccine

Take your pet to the Jalisco Centro de Salud, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., for a free rabies vaccine. In Chapala, go to Flavio Romero de Velazco 408B, open daily. In San Antonio, go to Ramón Velázquez 30, closed Saturday and Sunday. In Ajijic, go to Ocampo 102, closed Saturday and Sunday.

 

Archaeology talk

Archaeologist Dr. Peter Jimenez of the National Archaeology and History Institute in Zacatecas will present “How Nayar Cosmology is a Tool for Archaeology in Western Mexico” on Friday, October 24, at 11:30 a.m. at La Cochera Cultural (Javier Mina 49, Ajijic).

A donation of 200 pesos supports Senderos de México and Poco a Poco San Pedro.
