Documentary film
“La Bahía de Mi Vida” (The Bay of My Life), a film by Mati Covarrubias, will be shown on Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera.
The film focuses on Banderas Bay and honors the work of eight guardians who dedicate their lives to caring for the planet while exploring the invisible connections that nature holds to sustain life.

Mezcala’s cultural traditions
Traditional Huehuenches dancers will highlight a presentation of Mezcala’s cultural traditions on Saturday, June 6, at 5 p.m. at the Centro Cultural González Gallo in Chapala. The program also includes a documentary screening, a photography exhibition, and a biocultural talk on the regeneration of Lake Chapala. Admission is free.
Book Talk
Cafe Flavio Chapala holds its first Book Talk, discussing “We the People: The UN Whistleblowers,” written by Caroline Hunt-Matthes, on Friday, June 5. There is a meet-and-greet and refreshments at 4 p.m., followed by the talk at 5 p.m. The event is hosted by Sarah Shirley, pastor of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.

Kenneth spent over 20 years in South Korea as an educator, building a career in “edutainment.” Bringing together humor and honesty, he shares how a lifetime of being the perpetual outsider led him to a deeper sense of personal freedom, belonging and radical acceptance.
Chapala Birders
June 7, there will be an informal birding walk along the Allen Lloyd Trail. Meet up at 8 a.m. with local and visiting birders. Expect to see blue mockingbird, happy wren, and maybe a russet-crowned motmot or squirrel cuckoo.
To get to the trailhead: Drive up the Libramiento a half mile from the traffic light at Walmart, then turn left for the hospital (La Joya Medical Center). Double back and drive up the left side of the hospital uphill another half mile, and park on the only street to your left. The group will walk up the road past the new construction.
