Revolution Day
Each year on November 20, the citizens of Mexico celebrate the day that was the beginning of a decade-long battle against a corrupt government, which had held power for 30 years and the controlling, upper-class land owners.
One of the mottos of the revolutionaries was “Sufragio Efectivo, No Reeleccion” which translates to Effective Suffrage, No Re-election. This motto is still in use in Mexico today and remains an important feature of the political landscape.
Here in La Manzanilla a parade is held on this day, featuring school children dressed as these heroes and heroines of a century ago. As in previous years, all the residents of the town gathered at the Jardin to pay homage.
Delegado municipal
Well, it didn’t take a revolution, just a normal election day to select a new delegado (town administrator). On December 1, C. Francisco Javier Covabias will be sworn into office. Thenew “mayor” has promised an open-door policy for all the residents of La Manzanilla.
Dorothy’s Yard Sale
Dorothy’s annual yard sale is set to become the first formal social gathering of the high season. While there will be bargains and treasures to be found, it is also an occasion to meet and greet friends old and new.
Refreshments will be available as you cruise the tables filled with an assortment of items, all very reasonably priced.
The sale is this Sunday, December 2, beginning 10 a.m. Dorothy’s home is located on Calle Los Angelos, first house on the right. Just a reminder, do not bring your dog.
Blond Gypsies return
Latcho and Andrea will perform their Gypsy/flamenco music for two nights, Sunday, December 2 and Monday, December 3, at Martin’s Restaurant, beginning 8 p.m. As the couple are favorites here in La Manzanilla, and space is limited, reservations are required. The ticket price of 300 pesos includes dinner and show.
Latcho and Andrea now reside in Puerto Vallarta but continue to tour throughout Europe, Mexico and the United States. Come out and enjoy the untamed power of real Gypsy and flamenco music. Fast-paced or romantic, a rough authentic sound, simply irresistible.
Artist receptions
Upcoming on Friday, December 7, La Galeria de Arte will host their first Meet the Artist Reception, featuring the works of Montreal artist Louise Leneveu.
The reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. La Galeria de Arte is located at Calle Perula Sur 83. Easy to locate, from the main street into town, Maria Asuncion, turn at Palapa Joe’s restaurant and head up two blocks.
After the reception at this gallery ends, there will be another beginning at our newest gallery, Galeria #10, with entrances on both Maria Asuncion and Calle Playa Blanca. Come and view the opuses of 13 of our local artists. The viewing will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Afterwards, while the night is still young, stroll back to Palapa Joe’s and enjoy some music that will set your toes to tapping.

Fun in the open air
It is so refreshing to see that the children here in La Manzanilla do not need to be plugged into their cell phones to entertain themselves. Their creativity and imaginations are limitless. I watched recently as one young lad rode his horse into the surf and then used him as a “living” diving board. Fantastic is the only way to describe it.
